Well, I would have liked to work on some knives today, but I decided to start tearing things apart to rearrange the shop for some upcoming addtions.
I used to have all of my drill presses just to the left of my KMG, but after spending some time with Nick Wheeler and seeing what he could accomplish with his disc sander I decided to put some money from recent sales into building one for my shop and figured I'd keep all the grinders together.
After doing some shuffling and cleaning in my limited space, I managed to get all the drill presses positioned across from the grinders where my blasting cabinet used to sit, should work out well. Next I built the new workbench for the horizontal grinder build. I have the motor and have it set up to mount on an aluminum plate I made and attached to the worktop. The disc is on it's way from K and G, and the VFD should be here on Wednesday. Then it will be time for me to pick the brains of those of you who have wired up VFD's before because it's new to me
The bench I made today is very short because of that second motor in the pics, a 2hp Leeson that is going to power the Fellhoelter horizontal grinder that will be getting put together to the left of the disc sander. I'm hoping to have it all wired and running in the next few weeks. I kind of took a big risk, at least compared to my usually sensible ways, but I think it will pay off in the shop helping me to put out a better product in a shorter amount of time.
I'll post updates to this thread as the building of the two new grinders continues.........
Presses in their new home...
New grinder area expansion starting to take shape...
Also, knowing that I was going to have all of the drill presses moved away from this wall, I decided to build a proper belt rack. Turned out pretty good and only cost about $6.50 in materials.
