This one's about done. The peening of the 416 pin went well, a nice dome, the same on each side, no cracking. I applied axe wax to the micarta and so far it didn't darken much. Maybe that'll set in over night...

So, you ground the guard from round stock? Did you do any bending of the 416? I wonder how much bending is possible with and without heat.

Yes, no bending, this was pure stock removal. At times I questioned whether starting with thin flat stock and bending it would be easier, but my torch isn't at my current address and I didn't dare bend it so much cold.
