Shop Talk Q4 - Build Challenge - Kephart Knife

Hello Guys,

Apologies for not taking this opportunity to improve my skills, I had a very busy December at work and just could not get time in the shed. I have one more to make(a promise to a friend) and then I will try to catch up with the Bowie and if I finish early the Kephart as well in the next quarter. I have really enjoyed looking at the builds you have posted and the resulting cracking knives, I feel that I have still managed to learn a tremendous amount.

Sorry again.

I don't care for that look personally, but I've read the original had that feature.
That feature make noticeable difference in cutting . A few days ago I grind other one Kephart, same spine thickness as other one but still have not grind "convexed back toward the spine" It is convex from spin to edge for now .
When cutting cardboard / several of them joined together with a thickness of about an inch/ you can feel the difference , much less drag with that *feature*

I just received my copy of “The Bowie Knife” - Unsheathing an American Legend, and I am full of inspiration. I might be able to participate (or at least try).

I have a hardened 52100 chopper laying around for 5+ years, I think i can re shape it into a cool looking bowie, id love to try a coffin handle or something.

Hey Steelhog Steelhog are you still into doing a post for a q1 bowie challenge?

Well , you have steel but I have already half finished bowie which I started to work years ago...and forgot about .Thanks for reminding me :) I hope it won't be cheating if I finish it this challenge....
I found picture for now ............. finding knife will be a bigger challenge than making it 🤣

I'll definitely do a Bowie this year. Got some blocks of vintage micarta, got a new handle broach. I've got a couple things to finish first, so even Q2 is optimistic.

It seems K.B. Knifeworks has not logged in for about two weeks, do you feel like kicking off the thread instead, timos- timos- ? We are burning daylight! It's already Q1. It's a good initiative and it would be a shame to let it go away.

I dont know....does anyone else want to do it? im kinda time crunched

well i really loved my blue#2 kephart but i sold it to my neighbor....so i finally got around to profiling and beveling a kephart in zmax steel. I will heat treat it this weekend.
going with a 2100 aus. 30 minute soak, plate quench to freezer, and then 3x 400 deg. tempers.
