Tai and I have been talking...yes we still do that.

Several people have suggested that the folks in all the big debates would be better spending their time making knives.....and they are right.

SO -
This weekend I will start a WIP on a knife. I will try and show how I do things, and explain why I do them.
Tai is going to try and start one soon, too.
I encourage all those who have strong opinions about methods and procedures involved in making their blades to do the same.

This way we can discuss the art and science of our knifemaking.
We can hold a virtual BBQ. Ed can bring the steaks, I'll bring cigars and scotch, Tai will bring the snacks and his ukulele.
While enjoying each others company ,we can share our knowledge with each other and the readers of Shop talk !
Who's on for this party?

I know Tai will bring the Canola for the fried chicken :)

Sounds great. I can't wait

I will be heading North, Thursday for some Winter trekking. I'll be back Tuesday but really need to play a game of catch-up on some orders. I am totally for doing this but give me a few weeks.

Great idea... Thanks, Tai and Stacy!

Rick

This would be great! All I have to contribute is my interest though. Maybe got some plastic forks in a drawer around here somewhere......

Ooohhh, I can't wait! Now since Rick is gonna have his party hair afro on, can you do yours Bob Ross style so we can follow along at home?!

I have never doubted any of you guys' skills and ability, just the lack of nuance in a digital communicationcan get things all flaired up. Too bad more people don't remember that at times.

Good on ya guys! I will be subscribed for sure!

I love the sound of this a bladesmith throw down of sorts!! I agree wit Tx Bass, I enjoy the wip's and tutorials and find them very educational.

WIPs are the best threads in this forum!! Don't get me wrong, threads where I've learned important techniques and methods are great as well, but WIP's are where I learn the most and the best! You see a great WIP thread and look at all the pictures and how each maker's process goes from start to finish and that's where you learn things, in my opinion.

Very cool idea Stacy! Let's make some damn knives:D

Ok, then it is on.
I changed the thread title to:
Shop Talk Virtual BBQ and Hammer-in

Sounds great here. I am assuming you both are forging your blades? I am strictly stock removal but I love looking at the pics of you guys forging.

This project will be made from a damascus billet laminated to make Japanese kitchen blades.
The project will be a yanagi-ba with a special handle assembly technique. You should be able to make one from mono-steel with only the most basic shop tools.

Rick

Just be sure to take lots of Pics for the W&S part of the forums!! Look forward to seeing 'em!

Wow I can't wait to see all these WIP and am excited for the chance to learn from each of you participating. Please include as many details as time will allow, and the reasoning why you do things the way you do. Just say this is how I do it just never sits well with my analytical mind:o I always want to know more, and just like a toddler one questions answer leads to another question:p
