Have you considered a Randall?

Model 12-11" Smithsonian Bowie

The important thing is to have a blade that can perform in the clutch.
So I would suggest the Applegate Fairbairn Smatchet.

If performing in a clutch is the criteria then without question The Scrap Yard Dog Father.

Can the Smatchet do this?
if it can please post pics.....

What more do you need!!!!!

Hey

I'm looking for a short sword, for very close combat. It must also be able to slash, so it has to be a leaf-shaped blade.

Now, I am FULLY aware of the fairbarn combat smatchet, so mods please kick out anyone who links to one after this warning, thanks. The smatchet in question does not have enough length for my needs.

There is also a bronze swordmaker who makes a model called the "ewart park", this is perfect in shape and construction, but too LONG.

I need something inbetween those two, 30-35 cm. long leaf shaped blade, as short handle as possible (no longer than 15 cm.) Preferrably steel, but anything flies. And yes, it's gonna be used and not for stage combat either..., so make sure it is made to be used.

Please help, as my googling skills have run out.

Yep!!!!!!!

So it looks like the mods will have to kick me out but you will get to stay. Maybe you could get Marsh Turtle to glue a few more cm. to the tip?

I have seen a lot of really good suggestions here.

The great knowledge and vast experience of many members has been displayed.

I think, however, that a singularly suitable, but little known option has been left out.

I refer of course to the

Applegate Fairbairn Smatchet.

Just thought someone should throw it out as an option.

Ultra: It will take time, but soon, you'll be able to let go of your tough, brittle exterior, and embrace your inner Smatchet. :o

Until then, some ideas for you. Jungle Master? (It's an import, I think, but maybe it will work.) Schrade SM Bowie? Kukri (and maybe have an edge ground onto the top forward part of the blade?) Becker? (Brute or something.)

thx - cpr

Hey, I don't know much about it, but I heard that Applegate Fairbairn makes something that sounds like it fits the bill. Think it might be called a smatchet or something like that.

"Those Smatchets were the blade..."

BEST ONE YET!!! :D

Two hours later, and I'm still laughing over that one! :D

Ultra? You still out there? In the words of the immortal 'Larry The Cable Guy', "I don't care who y'are, that's funny right there!" :D

Dantor - thanks for the laugh. That was right up there with some of Cougar's cat pics . . .

thx - cpr

whew, i'm glad i found this thread. here in the philippines there's no lack of blade design variation to fit a specific use. but i still get peppered with questions about a knife with a funny shape, like a fat dagger, meant to penetrate a wermacht helmet, wielded by the british and americans of course.
