short stout fixed blade suggestions

on the exchange and whatever the seller is asking?
That's the "beauty" of the "limited run" marketing strategy. :)

I don't know what you consider expensive, but the Spyderco Street Beat is a nice offering. Otherwise, Becker Necker and Buck Mayo Kaala are good considerations.

Check out the Winston knives that are for sale on this forum right now. Useful size, good steel, well designed and priced fairly. I want one. Stephen

I have a little Blindhorse and another on the way. Both are one of their monthly specials. This one's about the size of their patch knife. The pocket sheath is from Knivesshipfree. Anza knives might be another maker to check out.

You might check out Micheal Morris Knives also - he has a EDC60 which has about a 2.5" blade. Its a beast. I received mine about a week ago and it feels great in the hand. Its heavy and thick. They run between 75 and 95 dollars.

I'll try to post some pics later, but check out his website

Welcome to the Mykulmorris fan club. I have morris custom made based on EDC60 with 3" blade instead 2,5" blade. Really nice and thick blade:

enough so I now own two :D

I just ordered my second custom knife from from Michael, and like the first, it is a Wharncliffe blade. I also have one of his production knives that I carry quite a bit. I have it in a KSF sheath that sits in my right, rear pocket. It's just impossible to go wrong with a Michael Morris blade.

Take a look at Anza knives. They've got a bunch of shorter knives, and most of them are pretty stout. They're all hand made from old files. They're not necessarily the sleekest, or the prettiest. You won't find advanced super steels, or amazing space-age handle materials.

What you will find is an amazing value in an extremely hardworking tool that will take abuse and keep on going. It takes a great edge without much work, holds the edge well, and for the price, you will be very hard pressed to find a better value.

I own half a dozen of them. ;-)

Also, Charlie Davis is a great guy to deal with. Really, a good guy.

Lastly, a lot of people forget that Anza will do custom orders to your specs, too. You can get an amazing custom knife from them for a very good price.

I got a Daniel Koster EDC a little while ago and I absolutely love it! It has a 3.5" blade with a high hollow grind from a 3/16" stock. The natural canvas micarta handle is really well sculpted and fits my hand perfectly. My specific knife is his final prototype of his EDC model. I believe they will be coming out any time or maybe are already out.
