Shot show pics of BM stuff

I found the Magnetic Latch Patent and Jay ["GuyInBlack"] busted it down for me from that silly patent site and their goofy format...

I already forwarded this to Mr. Glesser as he was interested in that. He had the info months ago, that's true...

I would have to look at it again to see when the patent runs out on it. It may have already. I don't know for sure as the patent was issued in the mid-1990s if I remember correctly.

Benchmade could have also purchased the patent, although I doubt that for some reason or another...

They [BM] could have also changed the use of the magnet(s) to such a degree as to make the patent null and void. I can think of one or two ways they could have done that as well.

I bet all the BM49SPL protos I have that you are sitting on a lot of information about these great news. Mind sharing?

I have to wait for permission.

Permission granted! ;)

Any idea on when you can start plappering about this subject? Can't wait! :D

Any one see any steel handles while there? Love the three inch. Much better using size than the 4. Love the spear point. When Les still answered email, I asked him about a spear point blade and he said no. But that was several months ago. Looks like maybe BM is going to give us a wide variety to chose from. Shades of the good old days. Now if they would just give us a choice between steel and ti...

Amazing what Tachyon, Monarch and the sniffings, now a reality, of a Cold Steel Balisong did, huh?

Lots of interest in here a few months back, BIG thread about a Spyderco Balisong too...

What did I say months ago?

Protecting an investment in the 42?

I thought that's what I said. :D

Someone made a remark in that Spyderco thread along the lines of "Lynn Thompson are you listening?" Modesty prohibits me from mentioning it though.:D ;)

Since it's now safe. Darrell did let it slip in November that Cold Steel was interested in his Gemini. He didn't say at what level, or how far. But considering it takes a few months to set up a machine shop to start producing these, the CS models should have been in the works for a while.

As for the BM Proto's. Very hard to say given their wonderful history of keeping records. And those that know, can't say because of permissioning issues...

It's better that they take their time and publish a perfect product, than rush things and ship out a Big Bug Balisong. ;) :D

Can someone post a link to the Spyderco balisong thread? I think I've missed it... Dunno how, though, I read every damn thread in this forum... :(

I particularly like that the spyderco thread started with Don saying:

It's funny that you said you'll believe a Microtech Balisong when you see it.

Hmm... that must mean a spydie is right around the corner. :)

Darrell has told me that Cold Steel will NOT be making Gemini. They will be making some other balisongs of his design. But, Gemini will remain exclusive.

Exclusive... I like that.

Balisong Sat IV was monitoring some phone call earlier today, some guy named Usama giving directions to his cave to the Pita Hut delivery driver, but we had to shift monitoring priorities when we picked up a satellite call out of Vegas and learned that Spyderco does have a completed balisong at the prototype stage but that Sal decided not to show it at Shot.

My guess? Look for it in Atlanta.

It had an unofficial unvealing at the New York Custom Knife Show in November (yup, same show Darrel let us know about the Cold Steel). AncientSul handled those bali's (more than one) from Sal's personal bag as the show was wrapping up on Sunday. According to him, there are several feature worth noting.

That may have been news to you at that point, but not to all of us.
Sorry Chuck, November 2001 is about a month earlier than most people knew about the CS bali's... You're still having trouble understanding me I see. ;)

Who knows? BM gets so cryptic and confusing at times...good grief. Are they saying there won't be a Production version of the Spear Point?

I don't know.

It appears they are trying to get the best of both worlds, have a high priced production piece without it being a full blown Custom.

They should just make Balisongs and screw all the Limited Edition nonsense...

Or...they could just sell to Chuck and Dudley, old Moneybags that they are. ;)

Seriously...
