we're home! we survived. it was quite interesting. DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING THE MR SAYS ABOUT ME! lol

there was no water, electric or bathrooms. ok there was a toilet but it was a permenant outhouse! TX wildlife was abundant and welll................wild!

we all had fun and i got to show off my new toys! got some pics. I will post after i was this east TX dirt off. it was VERY hot yesterday so just sitting we were covered in sweat. and if you got up and did anything you ended up covered in sweat and dirt. so we're........icky!

Kaela and Kamy w/ Russ. They thought he was the greatest person in the world and followed him EVERYWHERE! One time he turned to Kaela and said "Sweetheart, I HAVE TO GO POTTY! ALONE!"

Then last night.................man...those woods come alive at night. it's rather...shall we say.....CREEPY! There was something yelling all night both nights. Definately not human but nothing I knew existed. Then there were creepy crawlers EVERYWHERE and then there were these 2 raccoons with balls of steel! This is what they did to our camp in the middle of the night:

We never even got to eat those tostitos! Jerks. they slashed the bag open with an izula they must have stolen from the previous campers. ok maybe not but they sure did make a clean cut in MY CHIP BAG!

It seems a great time was head by all. Even the coons.:D;)

I'm glad you had a wonderful time. Take good care of those beautiful children.:)

Great pics, Mrs. Shotgunner. Coon's one of my favorite animals, especially stewed with some taters and onions.

it was tempting to spear those suckers and roast em. i wouldn't have eaten them but i'm sure the country folk that lived out that way would have been happier then pigs in shit if i dropped em off at their house!:D

i was mad this morning when i found out the mr had his sling shot! I was looking for something to throw at them. only thing i could find were my kids riding boots. then there would have been a coon w/ cute pink camo riding boots running around the national forest.

Well, it appears that the shotgunner family had a very memorable trip. I wish I and my wife were still in physical shape to go camping. Before our bodies gave out, we did a lot of camping(family and scouting.) And we have had to deal with the "wildlife" also. Sounds like an overall fun time.:D

That was probably Ryan Seacrest! :D

When you described the raccoons, I started to laugh because it reminded me of the movie The GreatOutdoors with John Candy and Dan Akroyd. That movie had a couple of raccoons in it, and that part of the movie was hilarious Your account of events made me laugh, thanks!

Man, that does look like fun! Too bad about the heat, but it looks like a nice lake to take a dip in.
I'm wondering if that was a bobcat you kept hearing?

we did not dip in the lake. the other people we went with did but they said the first few feet it was knee high w/ pine needles... ewwww!

The mr did see a big cat trying to get into our trash. I'll let him tell that story. I slept good through the first night when that happened. the 2nd night......not so much actually! lol

Do bobcats scream like like wild freaks? I wondered if it was wild turkeys. whatever it was it was loud and creepy!

And yes the coon scene was a lot like the Great Outdoors! hahahahaha I didn't know when they fought it sounded like two cats fighting! that's what started my night down hill the 2nd night.....didn't sleep much at all. i'll be packing tylenol pm in my pack next time we go camping!

There's a nice sized woods behind where I grew up and one summer we'd here these screams...quite chilling. One guy I know said it sounded like
Bigfoot getting a bikini wax. I ran into a conservation officer and he thought it may be a bobcat. I cant say for sure. I thought of grabbing a flashlight and a pistol and exploring the situation...but thought otherwise.:D

The cat I saw was almost surely a mountain lion. This was the middle of the night so my first reaction was "oh, a freaking cat trying to get into my trash". As soon as I lit it up with my light, it stepped down, looked at the tent and high tailed it the other direction. Only after it was down the trail and out of sight did my thinker kick in and I made the realization that our garbage bags were suspended about 7 feet off the ground and the cat was touching the bag. The bottom of the bag was about 5 and a half feet off the ground.

After doing some google homework, I decided that of the large cats that have been known to make Texas home, the cougar matches the best. Dark fur, smallish head and tail about the length of it's body.

I'm going to make a report with the dept. of wildlife management tomorrow.

Pretty freaking cool.

Nice pics Mrs. S, thanks for sharing. Years ago my sister Lived up in Huntsville and the racoons were so bad that she had to have a trash box built with a sliding bolt latch on it. Only proble, is that Southeast Texas racoon are as smart as your average 3rd grader and figured out how to open it within two weeks. That's when she invested in a padlock.

Shotgunner, I've heard reports that cougars were starting to make a comeback down in these parts. It's pretty cool that you actually saw one.

It might interest you to know that for years and years there have been lots of reports of Bigfoot sighting up in the Sam Houston National Forest. Maybe it wasn't a bobcat.;)
