Let's face it.
This wasn't funny the first time it was done.
It's still not funny after a hundred times.
All it accomplishes is to put a big black mark in the mind of
someone who doesn't read the thread.
You have just damaged the reputation of the very person you meant to compliment.
Let's return to crisp, clear language.
***** is good.
***** is bad.
***** should be eaten by fire ants.
Sorry for the rant
Doc

You took the words right out of my mouth. These simpletons make some thread and title it...'Billy Bob is a great big boob'. The inside they say "haha, fooled ya, hes my bestest buddy". Guess they figure some inflamatory title will make people wanna read thier threads.

Im with you doc, clear titles and informative posts.

I am totally agree. Sometimes I just scan through here to look for a name, and if I see XXX is a great guy in a couple titles, I'm satisfied with my search for whatever purpose I was doing one, and it saves me time because I didn't have to read the post to figure out what they were talking about.

Whatever attempt at humour some of these people are making sucks in my opinion, it sets a bad example for new guys, slows down the search process sometimes, and might ruin a deal if someone didn't read further into the post.

Definitely agree! Especially if you are hoping for some clear resolution to either get people to deal 'more' or 'less' with the person. Sometimes even clear language is a difficult hurdle so why make it even worse!? Also, per my inquiry on a post way back when, it is not possible to change the title of your posts... Once you screw it up it stays that way unless the new software has changed that ability. Better to shoot straight and keep it simple.

Amen and AMEN! Thanks doc

We often think that when we have completed our study of "one", we know all about "two", because "one and one is two". We forget that we still have to make a study of "and".

Point well taken Doc. I posted in this manner fairly recently re someone I think highly of, having never considered the negative possibilities. I stand humble and corrected....

SURE, NOW you tell me!
Hopefully, my post above is clear. There are great people here on the Forums. Word gets around quickly whether you're honest or not.

Doc,
You have hit on one of my personal pet peeves. You could not be more right if you were The Supreme Being! Lots of skimmers only look at thread titles and move on. People who do this "bait and switch" routine end up potentially harming those they wish to praise. It is sophomoric and has no place here. Thanks for the reminder. Rave over

I've always gotten a kick out of these types of posts, but I definitely see your point. I mean I've been here long enough that when I see a thread:

Don't do business with Chief!!!...

I fully expect to open it to find:

unless you want top quality service!!!

I haven't done business with Chief (yet!) but I know that his reputation here is impeccable, so I used him as the example.

So, as I said, although I find it funny I can imagine that a new member might get a wrong impression.

Well said.
It is best to state an earnest feeling rather than a basal compliment that might get honest folks in trouble.

Just my input.
