Should I get a 119 or a Nighthawk?

LOL

"try" being the key word!!!
Its impossible around these parts!!! :D

Tell me about it!!! :D

I just checked the TV Channel for the televised finals of the Tim Horton's Briar (used to be LaBatt's Briar :grumpy: ) and it's not on until 6:30... :(

Got a lot of time to kill...

JIM!!!!
Check your box...
please.
Doing my best to steer the thread off road...
Goose.

My box end isn't really option specific, and the nighthawk is stamped Pat. Pend. So I will guess this box is correct to the first all black nighthawk??
The serrations, bead blasted blades and OD green handles all came later.

I have never gone for the short NightHawks only cause I need to overcome my shortcomings with a larger knife ;)
Actually, I never went for the 655 because of the serrations. If I found one w/o the speed bumps, I'd get it if I could.

As for the video clips. I started to watch the one pounding through the block, then I realized I need coffee.

If someone can summarize the videos for me and those on telegraph line, that would be great.

The one problem with the short Nighthawk (aside from Gooses feelings of inadequacy) is that it comes with the standard length sheath. So the benefit of the short blade being easier to carry is lost with the big sheath.

There is a pretty good text summary of the destruction test on their web site. Not bad entertainment then again I like the CS dvd's too  You have to get over the fact that a perfectly good Nighthawk is going to be destroyed in 50 minutes (which is 20 minutes longer than it took me! LOL) The Freddy mask.... thats just wierd! Thanks for posting the link Magnum. Anyone know if you can download YouTube videos to a video Ipod type thing.

...

No kidding about the sheath? To me, that makes no sense.

I have short Nighthawk and yes, it has the same sheath as my full size. I thought I got the wrong one at first. It's the unserrated model and has a bead blast finish. One of AG's last ones IIRC. They're out there but you hardly see them these days. Always intended to get it into the hunting rotation but never did for some reason (too many others to choose from most likely :o). It would be a great woods/camp knife.

HA! I just watched the video from Knifetests.com, and I must confess, I'm the guy that asked him to test it! And my suspicions were confirmed...this is one tough knife. I would say, for the money, everyone should own one of these knives. I have watched his other tests, and this knife would be equivalent to the $200-$300 dollar knives. In fact, it will outperform some of them. Is this a realistic test of a knife....no. BUT, it will show you how well it is made and the punishment it can take. I'd take my Nighthawk anywhere with confidence. Even the dude wearing the Jason mask was impressed.:D

Jason mask... that tells you how much I'm into horror movies (I called it a Freddie mask  )! Weird. Anyway, the Nighthawk held up to a lot of abuse before failing. Jason was impressed! Thanks for requesting the test Mark. I enjoyed watching it.

I wonder if there is a public report somewhere about the Nighthawks performance in military testing? It would be interesting to see what issues the gov't had with it and why it chose another maker (which knife did they choose anyway?)

My 655 sheath is actually marked 650. I think Buck uses the same sheath for to reduce costs... one sheath, less inventory, etc. I'm not complaining (too much :) ).

I thought I would put some closure to this thread..... my replacement Nighthawk arrived on my doorstep in todays mail (according to the Mrs... she gave me one of those "what did you buy now" calls ). I can't wait to get home and play with it!

Thanks to Joe and everyone at Buck for standing behind their knives  They could have easily said that batoning is not a recommended use and not covered it. Instead they sent me a replacement at no charge. Awesome company

Now I guess I have to work on that 119 vs Nighthawk comparo that I promised. Where do I start
