I have a bradley alias BM 790, a lfti, a spyderco sage 2, a BM mpr and a strider
smf.

Should I spend the money on a sebenza when i have these alike
knives?

The Sebenza is a knife you can't get around. You will have to find out for yourself if you like it, and there's only one way. It's a grail knife to many. It also fits in the line-up you already have.
And if you don't like it you can always sell it and not lose money.

I got my first Sebenza a few months ago. It is nice, but it's certainly not for everyone. It's in my EDC rotation but I just like carrying a 940 or a Mini Ritter better. I think it's mainly about cost. I have no problems using it, but I fear losing it! I just think it's too much to spend on a knife personally. But, it is an excellent knife design and it really is perfection.

If you are asking that question, then you already know the answer.

On the other hand, if you do buy one, it will likely destroy any feelings of admiration that you have for most of your existing collection... :)

If you want it. It does not matter how many and what knives you already have.
I have got many knives. Some of them are quite expensive. I could have Sebenza as well - could just sell a couple of knives, or just buy it one day. But I do not feel anything about it. So why should I?
And I have tried it, looked at it and held in my hands - nothing. So why should I spend any money for another knife which I do not even like?
It is quite personal - some love it, and some do not care.

So that you can sell it to me at a huge loss. Remember, you do have that as an option.

Ok, I've fooled around enough in your thread. Sorry :) I will contribute, if I can.

I don't own a Sebenza. I have held them and I have worked with an Umnum. I like them. They are very smooth, great fit and finish, and plainly rock-solid. I prefer to have few knives, but great examples of specific types. If I had the ones in your collection, I would be happy to buy a Seb with the intent of selling either the Seb (if I was disappointed) or another knife/2 to justify the new purchase. If I ended up loving it, it would take the place of another knife and that one could easily leave my collection. ...or maybe try this approach - If you want to try a Seb bad enough, tell yourself that you will hold off on buying the next 2-3 knives that really interest you, in order to save up and justify the expense of a nice Sebenza. Just a thought :)

If you are asking if it's worth the price that they command, only you can answer that question... and you can best do that if you try it out in your daily routine.

I would agree with the others - only you can make the determination, and that unfortunately requires the investment. I suggest you give it an honest chance if you do decide to pick one up.

Also - be careful if you choose to purchase a new one. There seem to be a LOT of Sebenzas for sale right now in the exchange, and chances are if you sell a new one you will have to take a hit.

I recommend getting one used from the exchange to try out.

Get a user first to have a feel for it. That way, when you resell it, if and only if it's not for you, then your wallet won't take much of a hit.

Another thing to decide on is, small or large?

Either way you lean, nothing is ever like, the real thing.

I seriously doubt that :)

Pretty hard to argue with that - any of it. FWIW, a Sebenza would be in my personal Top Five All Time list.

I have toyed with purchasing a small Seb for years now and have certainly spent many times over the amount on other knives but I have traded or sold every framelock and/or metallic scale knife I have owned. I know they are good but I like G10, Micarta, wood, CF, etc.. No doubt a standard though.

as others have said: only you can make the determination if you like it or not. also try and buy used on the forums.

i really like my sebenza and carry it daily. i think its a fine knife.

That's honestly what happened to me, after handling sebenza's i have had trouble liking other knives as much because i notice the small imperfections and the action is just not the same. I am considering getting an alias 2, because i want a small edc option and it has similarities to the sebenza but then i start thinking if i'll enjoy it as much as my large sebenza, i'm pretty sure the answer is no. It's probably still a hell of a knife, but i start thinking well maybe i should just save some more and get a small seb.

The knives i'm looking at right now as possibilities for my next knife are: alias 2, sage 2, Military, Gayle Bradley, and 581 Barrage or i could just save some more and get a small seb. That's the problem I've had because of sebenza's, they've made me second guess myself on other possible knife options because i like them so much and feel they are unmatched in quality. If i was still obsessed with the latest and greatest steels like i used to be then i probably wouldn't have much trouble picking other knives over a sebenza, but since then i have sort of put build quality and precision of a knife as a priority it seems. There are other knives out there that exude quality and precision, but none like the sebenza, at least when speaking of production knives.

To the OP, sebenza's are definitely something you have to experience, watching reviews and reading about them can only get you so far. You have to handle one and decide if they are as great as they say, or not for you. I recommend you buy one from a reputable dealer and if you don't like it return it.
