Should I get a sebenza?

No! I bought and sold 4 of them and only broke the addiction by purchasing more expensive folders. :D

Buying a Sebbie is almost a rite of passage for serious knife people. I have a large ironwood inlay classic and a small plain--the small one
is in my edc but the large is just to damn beautiful to rough up; yeah, I know, carry and use what you buy. If anything , they aren't quite
tactical enough for me as my favorite carry is a BM 800; that being said, you'll probably never rest until you experience one for yourself.

For me, no and hell no. Not worth the money. I have one, my Sog Vulcan and my ZT are just as good. I'm mostly cheap so I like the Cold Steel Recon folder. But I did just buy two new Busse combat basic 10le's. If you have the $500 to blow its up to you.

Good luck to you! It now begins, the sickness has started! Welcome to the sickness which has no cure! If you wind up liking your new Sebenza, you have got to try the Umnumzaan next! I did, and it has kicked the Sebenza out of the pocket permenantly! The Umnumzaan is definately my favorite flavor of the Chris Reeve folders!

Last Summer, I purchased what I wanted at a local store - got a block away, and, after a bit of mental arithmetic revealed I could have a new small Sebenza in S35VN for what I had just spent, turned around. They happily swapped - even, the salesman having a happy 'I told you so!' smile as I left. It is one fine knife. My wife returned, days later - and bought the two, a BM 480-1 Shoki (below) and a MictoTech Ultratech, presenting them to me later that month as my birthday present.

The small Sebbie was my third CRK knife, following Christmas' fb Nyala and 9/10's Wilson Combat/CRK Umnumzaan (below), bought supposedly as a one time commemoration of my retirement. As you can tell, it didn't work. Sure, I had many excellent similar knives; BM 630, 790, 755, etc - even the 'Poor Man's Sebbie', a Buck/Tom Mayo Ti/S30V collaboration that is no longer available (below). Don't get me wrong - the Mayo/Buck is really nice - so is a Bradley Alias I. But that 'zaan is alone, quality-wise. The Nyala would prove to be a bargain - my first S35VN blade. The small Sebbie... just a big "Wow!". But - and here is the clincher - would I part with the other two knives in the picture to afford the Sebbie? No. Ownership pride is nice - but that little Shoki is just really nice - and so is the ZT-0551 - and it fills a different 'need'. I certainly would think long and hard about cleaning out some nice knives to fund a Sebbie purchase - but that is me. Your decision is personal - and should be made after fondling a Sebbie, IMHO.

YMMV.

I say get it...I'm more of a gun guy than a knife guy..To me CRKT,Gerber,Kershaw and Buck are as good as I need...But,,,I have some high dollar guns that I just "wanted" ..My Kimber Ultra CDP was close to a grand..The Sig 229 SAS was over 8 bills, my other Kimber custom carry was $750...

Do these perform any better than my Glocks? Barely ,they're slightly more accurate and need to be kept clean and oiled to perform...But I had the chance to get them so I did..I say go buy the knife..

I have one, it is very good of course but you may wonder if it's worth double the price of your Sage 2.

On the other hand, if you do buy one, it will likely destroy any feelings of admiration that you have for most of your existing collection...

Not at all. I still love my humble Opinels even more than my Sebenza. No kidding. Opinels have charm and soul, it's something that I miss in many modern knife designs. Please note that I didn't write that the Opinels are better than my Sebenza, they aren't (except for thin slicing), but I love them more.

I also faced that conundrum a while ago and also have owned and still own many of the other Ti Framelocks mentioned in the same flavor.

I wanted my first taste of a CRK knife and ended up going with the Umnumzaan as my first CRK. As it turns out, it's my most carried knife ever for going on a year now - that's a record. The ultimate result though, is that I still buy other knives because we can't help ourselves but I haven't had the urge to jump into a Sebenza yet. The Umnumzaan has scratched the CRK itch for now and is one of the best general EDC knives I have ever owned. I'm not sure I need another CRK right now and I am not even sure the Sebenza would get more pocket time than my beloved Umnumzaam anyway :D

Would you be interested in a bag of assorted Opinels for that Sebenza? They'e real charmers! :p :D

You should get one so that you can sit with the other "awesome" people and bask in the glow of the awesomeness of your knife.

Are they good knives? Sure they are. I don't own one because I don't like the design and I don't like framelocks but I've played around with a couple. They're just not my thing.

That said, don't get one because everyone else says they're so great. Don't be one of those lemmings, there are plenty of other makers at that price point who make some seriously nice stuff.

If you really want one get one.....if you're doubting....use your brain and make up your own mind.

There's no doubt you should get a Sebenza but I would recommend saving a little extra and getting one with inlays or unique designs because the plain handle, although beautiful and great in it's own way, might leave you wanting an upgrade.

The Micarta Sebenza's are just FANTASTIC!

I say try it out. Buy a used one, and if you dont like it sell it. I have an Umnumzaan which is just amazing, and have a few sebbies on order. A large and small snakewood, and a large micarta insingo. If you are entering into that pricepoint of collecting, there are lots of other makers to check out, but CRK is among the top.

I have a used one that I've carried a lot. It has scratches and a bit of charm and is as sharp and smooth as the day I got it when it was LNIB. I have both the Sage 1 and 2, an Emerson, Hest folder, a ZT, and assorted other folders. The Sebenza is still the best of the bunch, IMHO. Try it and see. Plenty of them to be had here on the exchange.

Bingo! You're not considering buying an item designed to take you to the moon, you're considering buying a knife and at the end of the day the Opinel will cut things just as well as the Sebenza. It won't last as long but for the price of the Sebenza you could buy 50 Opinel's. At this point (and price) it's all about what you like, just like art there would be paintings I would part with my hard earned cash with that you wouldn't. I handled a small Sebenza and decided it wasn't for me, at least try to get one in your hand before pulling the trigger. One cautionary word, given the current financial climate you'll find it harder to sell anything on at the moment without some kind of loss.

Happy hunting:)
