Should I get an Opinel?

Agreed. I thought the #6 would be too small, until I got one. :) And it's easy to carry, even dropped in a shirt pocket, it's so light.

Yes it is, I just received one on Wednesday from Ben's Backwoods on eBay.
The only problem is my wife grabbed it after I opened the package,OH can I
have this?? Sure dear, I bought it with you in mind :(

In an other way, it was less expensive than jewels !:D

As a frenchman, i prefer Douks to Opinel, exepted for Customisation, for which they are great fun !:)

:) That's a better way of looking at it.. also re Douks I have only seen one style of Douk. Is there more than one style? If so, where am I able to purchase one?
Must try one out...

My little french knives take a beating and still forage on with nary a complaint. Remarkable design and markedly superior slicing ability when compared to thicker edge profiles. The blades are inexpensive, utilitarian tools. A perfect compliment for the SAK in my survival kit.

 Thank you for the link..I am at work now, and folks keep interupting my surfing..What's up with that? Will check it out this eve.

Peace: Dave

Sorry for my inappropraite comment. It was failed attempt at humor to go with your joke about the perfume and stuff. I didn't mean to offend. This stuff runs rampant on my usually forum sight and I am just to used to recieving and giving these kinds of jabs and it wasn't an attempt at trolling.
I sincerely apologize.

I read this whole thread and decided I had to get myself an opinel, well it came today. I got a number 6, what a great little knife. I see my self using it for camping kitchen chores when a plastic knife won't do. And at $9 I really dont have to be careful with it. I really like this little knife.

Buy the Opinel and if you can't find one at a knife store check the cooking stores like William Sonoma. They have them there too.

Now you'll want a #7 #8 #9 and on and on it go's :)

Well, this thread has persuaded me. I'll probably put in an order at SMKW this weekend for a few Opinels and a Mora.

It'll make me feel better after letting a Spyderco Police slip through my fingers.

Get one! It's a terrific, elegantly designed knife–locks opened and closed! Sharp, light and comfortable to handle. When you feel the knife buying bug, buy another–they won't break the bank, and they make great gifts. They'll spread Brie on French bread like nobody's business! I believe they may be the greatest value in a knife, in use and aesthectics, I've ever seen. I like the customizations I'm seeing on this thread, too. Why not?
Mine's a #9. I gave two #7's as Christmas gifts last year. $7 for one of the most useful things on earth. Not bad!
One more thing: My #9 centers perfectly and locks up nice and tight, unlike too many other more expensive folders.
Good luck!

Hard to beat the ten-pack in a gift box for $60. One of each usable size, plus a few larger and smaller.

First off Sorry to hear about the Spyderco,:( but I'll tell you what..those Mora's
are a hoot,to make it distinctively your own.
I just spent the last couple of nights, sanding of the red paint and putting on some Tung oil and a we bit of brown stain.
What I am hoping to try is in a fine white paint over the dark brown, come up with some sort of Celtic art work.
Heck if it doesn't work back to sanding..and red paint;)
