Should I send it back?

Guys, I'm pretty new to traditional folders and I know their build standards arent as high as tactical folders, so I was just wondering what problems are considered acceptable? What requires sending back? I just received a Case Canoe today and its almost perfect! The fit and finish is better than the 2 rough riders I have except in the backspring. Both RR's have absolutely flush backsprings while opened and closed, but on the Case the backspring for the smaller blade is both slightly depressed when closed and more noticeably raised when open. The other one is perfect though. So I want to know is this a common problem for case knives or is it something that I should send back for repair?

yes.get it replaced with a fully good one. let them worry about repairs. you paid for it without faults.

There are two schools of thought of course...bottom line, if it bothers you, send it back. Case will make it right. I've sent two knives back to Case for things others would consider minor, but would have bugged the crap out of me. You paid for a quality knife, you aren't happy, end of story. My .02.

See thats where you find that making a slipjoint right can be just as intense as making a good quality modern folder...if the tolerances are out even a fraction you'll have little quirks that will bug the heck out of some people or make the knife almost unusable (such as edge hitting the spring).

I guess I'm wondering on what basis you say this? There are companies that put quality as a first priority, and those that are pretty shifty in what they find acceptable, in any style of production knife building.

That wouldn't bother me any, but then mine are all users, so stuff like that is minor. If it bugs you send it back, by all accounts they'll take care of you.

will take advantage of this thread to ask something

I have a medium 3 5/8" case Cv stockman from 2010
edges were horrible on all 3 blades, even risharpened by hand they don't cut like my other CV's, the clip point blade is pretty thick at the edge and the sheepfoot does not get sharp even after 3 sharpening sessions
I cleaned and lubed it twice, it's still gritty and not that smooth

to make it short I'm not that happy about it, it's a slim knife that should cut crazy! my medium trapper wich is roughly the same size/specs got crazy sharp in no time
even if I have resharpened (2 weeks old btw) it, can I ask to send it back for a new one? I belive it wasn't ground enough or may have HT problems

thanks guys!
Maxx
