Should I Show You Pictures?

For those of you who don't know, I photograph nature for a living. I go camping most every week, and I make outdoors day trips quite frequently on the days I'm in town.

I see that it has come to be popular on this forum to share pictures from outdoors trips. For examples, from the last week, here are a few that others have posted:

I'd enjoy regularly sharing some of my pictures from my outings, too, but I haven't, for a couple reasons. 1) I don't want to dominate this forum with threads showing my pictures, every day or two. 2) I don't want it to seem like I'm pushing my business upon you guys, without paying to be a dealer, here on BF. (Really, I don't see showing pictures, here as likely to create business; just sharing pictures with friends – but I don't want it to be perceived that way.)

So ... would you all like me to share a lot of nature pictures, here in WSS?

I would love to see more too. I have always wanted to do what you do, any suggestions?

i would love to see them! especially some behind the scenes stuff too. the gear you use so frequently, tried and true tips and tricks you might have, even a post on outdoor camera gear and how you carry it safely would be especially interesting i think!

I'd love to see them, as well. For those that don't, they don't have to click on the thread.

Pictures please! I'm sure many of us would love to do what you do.

But you should first rewrite your PSK article with your new gear choices.

I posted them just because it was so much fun to see pictures posted by other members.
I've always love to see them and maybe yours, too.

I would love to see them too, it's to our advantage that you're a professional, no problems with that.

In the nicest possible way, I don't care.

I have a very casual interest in photography. Not much, I know more about cheese, but it is enough to get me membership of a couple of photography forums. There it does matter who took the shots and with what ... Folks are there to showcase and review the works of others. Reviews are done on the basis of technical accuracy and artistry and other discriminations. Fair enough, most of them are professionals and one would expect that type of fine examination, and it can be fun. Other times I think “why don't you guys just switch off the over-thinking and just live a little”. Get a pen name for your day off. I guess it's a bit the same as here with knives and some of the cult decent into the minutia that has little real world difference. Bit like being taught to look through a microscope to see differences in something the layman is joyfully unconcerned with.

On that, I don't care who took a photograph. I don't care whether it was taken on a phone or with a Hasselblad. I subscribe to the school of thought that says the one thing that makes a good photograph is “that it be memorable”. Nothing else matters. Just post them.

Here's one of mine. I'm certain that it is wrong in many ways that I'll never know. I don't care. It was a lucky shot from a friend's garden of a shed fire. I regard it as a good photo regardless of which of us took it or any other factor. No further thought required.

I always enjoy your photos Evolute. I liked it when you were moderating the pic of the week thread. That was a lot of fun. It is probably almost impossible for you to throw up some mediocre snapshots, but I suggest you try doing it sometime. Let your hair down and give us a weekend view of your camping trips. Just grab a little point and shoot and share with us the story behind the 'real shoot'. That would be a fun thread to read.

OK, then, I will.

If any moderators have any issue with this, let me know, and I'll stop.
