Should We Be Carrying TWO EDCs?

I, too, only carry two these days. The shame....

The thing is, if you use your knives in front of coworkers, don't act crazy; if you act crazy, don't use your knives in front coworkers. If you're an outspoken critic of political correctness, assume people think you're crazy (if they agree, why say it? If they disagree, that's their problem, but you're the crazy guy who makes them self-conscious).

I typically carry two, a large blade and a Vic Farmer. The SAK is practical and has the added benefit of not frightening anyone.

Like most others here, I almost always carry two blades. I work at a private university and am allowed to carry pretty much any knife I want. I have no intention of defending myself in a knife fight as I have seen first hand the result when I lived in inner-city phoenix as a teen.

However, I like to have a large blade for serious cutting, and since I manage a kitchen, i occasionally have reason to do so.

anyway, I always have a sak, case stockman or a queen dogleg jack for most all my tasks and then have a bm mini darkstar or Steve Rice linerlock in my back pocket. i did just get a large sebbie so that will get pocket time also.

I have learned to always use the minimal knife for the job at hand, when non-knife people are present. Why risk either upsetting someone or getting in trouble. I love knives, but not everyone does. No need to boost my ego or justify my love by forcing it on another person.

My thoughts,

thanks,
Brett

I always have two. A Schrade SS1 on my key chain, which is my most used knife, and a Spyderco S30V Native.

The SS1 doesn't scare anyone at work and I often get asked "Where can I get one?". My Native however might get me a "recorded caution" if used at work so it stays out of sight.

It is a sad day when our society reacts this way to an everyday tool such as a common pocket knife but then again perhaps I am not all that surprised seeing how the average citizen walks around with rose color glasses on and believes nothing bad will happen to them or that someone else will do the dirty work like opening boxes etc. My belief is if working in this environment it is best to keep the knife concealed thus it never will become an issue.

Personally, I would feel more confortable if EVERYONE carried a knife. I believe it's silly to be afraid of one, but the sad fact is that a lot of folks are.

Growing up, EVERY man in my family, uncle, dad, cousins, carried a knife. Most carried buck 110s in a belt sheath. If something needed to be cut, there was always a knife present. Never a dull moment.....he he

It's a different world in a lot of places.

I had a coworker ask me if I felt unsafe because I had my vic farmer (closed) out on my desk. I was legitimately confused by her comment, but she really didn't get it.

Same here, everyone in my family carried some type of pocket knife although not for self-defense but for daily usage. Looking back not much farther I can remember bringing a rifle to high school, imagine that today

Most of the time I carry 3. I alternate the Spyderco from Police to the Military, but the Katz cheetah is on the belt for the daily ride, and for much of the time so is my fixed blade for heavier cutting. The fixed blade usually remains on the belt all the time in cold weather, and with winter clothing it is not in view for sheeple. In summer I carry the fixed less, but there are always at least two folders with me.

its a shame that its gotten to the point were everybody gets worked up over a pocket knife. I cant tell you how many people have given me the eye when i open a fedex box/whatever with one of my old slip joints or my buck dorado, i just continue doing what i'm doing like its nothing. Its pretty sad when a vic or one of my old slippies gets eyebrows to raise, like i might has well produced a ninja sword from my pocket:eek:
maybe i'll start using my SM Wildcat Driller for my daily cutting tasks, 'scuse me while i whip this out!
good post

First off, if where I worked had a blade-length rule I wouldn't exceed it. Worth losing your job just to prove some kind of point to people that don't care?

Besides, for me anyway, I've never had to cut anything that couldn't be done with a 3" blade.

Second, I do carry two knives at work. One in my pocket on a lanyard (used the heck out of it last night), and one as a spare in my bag.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Totally agreed. If the place I worked said NO knives, i would NOT carry. Not worth my livelihood.

Best,
Brett

Yes, more than one knife can by handy.
I always have a good utility knife on top of the little "razors" I carry around ("razors" being a ZDP Caly 3 and Fallkniven U-2).
Plus the two blades on my multi-tool.

Living in Canada fixed blades are the most legally worry free knives you can have, I've been thinking of EDCing a Spyderco Bill Moran as well.

I figured out that I carry at least four different knives at work :)
I have a Fallkniven U2 and a Leatherman Fuse as EDC. A Fallkniven WM12 and a SAK in my pack. That is if I am only going to work :)
Otherwise there is at least three more knives, a folding saw, and at least one axe in my pack.

About the people being intimidated by a normal pocket knife. Grow up, and that in a country where people run around with handguns like people carry cell phones in Europe.

How about you buy some kind of nice knife to your boss for christmas. Something classy without any combatty features. Something like a Fallkniven U2, any of the wood handled EKA folders or such. Maybe a Leatherman of some kind might do the work as well.
If the boss carries, the minons follow :)

My Spyderco SE Dodo and my Tanguay Custom Little Prick serve me well. The SE and hair-popping plain edge compliment themselves well.

Yep, I agree with that too. Thousands of New Mexicans have concealed carry permits; tens of thousands more carry in their vehicles (no permit necessary); and most people have a firearm in their home.

Still, I wouldn't pull out a firearm in front of people in a work/office/professional environment. Nor would I pull out a weapon-looking pocketknife.

I carry two knives most days, three if you count my multitool. I guess I am fortunate to have always had a job that lends itself to needing a knife. Right out of high school I work in a steel mill, carrying some type of knife was almost required. Now I am in the military and pretty much am never without, since I can carry a knife some places others cannot. I can't ever see myself working a trade that didn't allow for me to carry a knife. If I did then I guess I would just hide it so nobody could find it. I am pretty good at hiding my knives thanks to places like amusement parks, museums, the mall, bars and just about everyplace now a days. I don't really see it getting better anytime soon.

Lately I carry a Case peanut slipjoint, and a multitool is either also on me or close at hand. Niether is terribly frightening, and both can handle any task I'm likely to encounter when at work or around town.

I allways carry at least three knives: folder or Balisong, auto and multitool. Sometimes I also carry Gerlach throwing knife (real BEAST!), but usually stays in my car.
