shout-out in support of 'Idaho Made'

I personally try to avoid any IM knives. Then again, I try to avoid any 21's or newer. I'm old school I suppose.

I don't mind it one bit.

I think it's a great statement. He takes it farther than just "made in the USA", and narrows it down to the state, Idaho. It's a matter of pride. And like others have stated, I only buy knives made here in the US, and for good reason. The quality and pride that goes into the manufacturing of it. He cannot please everyone, and this thread is proof of that. Even without the IM stamp, folks still nitpick. And that's the great thing about living here - we're free to do it.

I personally love it! When I bought my first crk, a regular sml sebenza, I was actually a little bummed it didn't have the stamp! I'm now working a deal to get a 21 with the stamp and I'm excited about it! He's proud of where he makes his amazing products!

I think it is awesome, I am also a huge fan of spuds. All I think of when I see it is a twice baked potato.

I agree with Haze's first post.......dead horse and all
Yes I have an IM.
By the way, was there ever an explanation for engraving? Guessing here, it's a TAX BREAK involved.

I thought someone from CRK had said it was to slow down counterfeiters? But I was never clear on why you couldn't just add that to the features you were faking...

The idaho made is a very sharp and detailed small engraving. You need good machinery to do it in a convincing manner. Anything sub-standard will be obvious. Similar to the micro-printing on money or a cheque. This does not mean that the counter-fitters can't do it, but they have to make a similar investment in expensive machinery to get there. This is why a fake "Kevin John" etc Sebenza is still over a $150. Even they can't make them cheaply. It levels the playing field a bit, and excludes the worst of the counter-fitters.

There's no evidence of that at all. If that's the deal, Idaho is doing a better job of keeping secrets than the NSA, which isn't usually how tax incentives work.

'Idaho Made' is cool. So would 'USA Made' or 'Idaho USA Made' - anything like these are great. Doesn't matter to me if its for 'being proud', a tax break, all the above, etc. From what I've read, Chris Reeve is proud of his adopted state/country and is a proven smart business man who I'm sure does what he can to have a successful and respected business. Nothing wrong with that.

How beautiful a place is or how much pride one has in a particular place, for what ever reason, has zero to do with how out of place the "Idaho Made" engraving looks on the knives and how out of the blue it came. I don't like it and I never will, I'm still a huge fan of CRK and will continue to be regardles of the small things I don't like. They make the best production knives one can buy and you can't complain about that. I'll also add that this horse has been dust for a long time now and is really not worth trying to ride.....

^This right here^

One of the things that drew me to a plain jane 21 in the first place before ever collecting CRK knives was its simplicity......its total simplicity. It is not hard to see when a Sebenza is in hand how so much attention to detail and every detail works together for the good. It is great CRK likes to represent the cool state of Idaho but why not slap a fancy sticker on the box, an engraving on a lanyard bead, or a sig line on the certificate of birth? Either option would still draw praise to that fine state while still preserving the total simplicity of the CRK lineup. Just my two cents

I like it ....because it allows me to price gouge the suckers that don't like it. To be honest, i don't even notice it anymore, until a thread like this is started. And, the "Classic" written on some is far worse (imo).

If one more respected maker moves to Idaho and starts stamping knives, you'll all be hunting for knives with Idaho Made. It'll be as respected as "Swiss Made" is on watches. And if you knew how much of a 4K Swiss sports watch was made in China, you think twice about plunking down 4K.

I dont know why people get so offended over that stamp, i never thought twice about it.We are in such a "pre" age,its tiring. pre ban ,pre lbs,pre this & that.

I like the Idaho Made and it never bothered me in any way when it came out. To me, I always loved the Classic MM engraving and wish they had done something similar to that with the Idaho Made to dress it up a little, but they did not, so I just live with it and enjoy the CRK. The Idaho Made would never keep me from buying any particular CRK as many have said. I love CRK and will continue to buy and support them.
