Here's my first knife. A big ol' Viking scramasax....built like an axe using an angle grinder and some files.

I made my first knife last year from an old file and some curly osage.

This is my favorite picture of that knife. It reminds me of all the hours of hand sanding I had in it.

With any lucky there will have been some new "firsts" since 2011 when those threads have been posted. :)

Made it 4-5 years ago in a brake drum forge. Old lawnmower blade and moose antler. Heat treat was a total failure- I think I inadvertently annealed it instead of hardening. It's probably a serious competitor for "Ugly Knife of the Year" award. You still sure you want to see this?

Brace yourselves for ugly!

And just to remind myself that I'm never going back to that level of ugly, a pic of my most recent knife.

1961 - some sort of mild steel and an antler from a deer my father shot. Forged with a propane torch and a ball peen hammer on a large vise anvil. Quenched in water, but probably barely hardened. Nails for rivets. I blackened the antler with the torch when the knife was done.
