I am not sure that title came out just right, but anyway... I picked up this camp knife a while back and haven't used it much, but I am going take into the woods an see what it will do. I almost picked up machax at the same time and didn't, I'm kicking myself now... Let's see yours.

Here's mine - my favourite blade, actually. This is a Cincinnatti Becker, not a Camillus.

Doc,

That's the one. Is she a good chopper? I haven't actually handled one.

Better than a beaver's teeth! I really love this knife. As mentioned in a previous thread, I have a bad back so I can't really use an axe, and I consider a hatchet to be too dangerous when you're tired and in remote locations, so this is my 'go-to'. Not too big to cause carrying problems (Balric rig) but still ample for what I need.

I've also used it for roughing out a bow stave (worked quite well) and as a draw knife (adequate).

It could probably be outcut with some of the large Khuks and others, but it does the TFM (trick for me). A friend of mine bought the Camillus version, and I didn't like it quite so well, but it may be fine.

Doc,

Sorry to hear about the bad back. I hurt mine seriously for the first time about a year ago. It left me immobile for a couple days (not a feeling I liked), but gave me an appreciation... I notice that people make a distiction between the Cinci and the Camillus, what is the difference?

For one thing, the handle feels different. The handle on my Machax does not feel slippery, the Camillus does. The Camillus blade is coated, the Cincinnatti is not. I don't know if the steel is different and I have never tried the Camillus.

defaultuser, I really like the Brute. I was going to buy one before the wall dropped. Maybe once Kabar starts to produce............

Those BK7/Brute - Necker combos are awesome! Are the grips still available anywhere?

Doc,

From Marty Simon's thread (which prompted this one) it sounded like Kabar might not make the old line for a while

It pains me to see the over inflated prices and under used blades on these knive as they are the everyman do it all knives.

Here's a rather crappy pic of my BK7 after stripping, polishing, and repainting the slabs with automotive finish. Its a dark gray semi-gloss with texture additive.

I'll try to get a better pic tomorrow.

Well I don't have one of those pointy things. Here is my Becker:

It gets a lot of use!
