So a fellow forumite gave me half of a John Deere driveshaft over the weekend and I figure that a good use of it would be in a nice big cutter. So, I'd like to do a bit of a study of competition cutter design to get some ideas.

Any of you guys have some pictures of big choppers or competition cutters you want to share?

Sometimes you do just have to make a BIG NASTY.
The last one I made for a cutting contest did well. Cut everything I asked it to. A friend brought someone over to visit who was going to Afganistan. He wanted a real good cutter. Guess where my knife went?
From what I've heard it is serving him well!

Here's a chopper I made a while back. I wouldn't call it a comp cutter though. This was made to cut brush or pop some large kindling ;) etc, rather than rope (is there a comp for cutting "lumber" like 2x4 etc.) I have never seen or held a comp cutter but would think thin & fast would be what you'd want . This one is carrying some forward weight too ( ~.225 A2 ) The smaller one ;) is a broad flat ground w/skeletonized handle camp that is super light weight for it's size. There's a couple examples of some of mine for ya deker :D That is wicked lookin Spencer, I love it

here's my cutter. It is 52100 blade right at 10". THe blade shape helps in different cutting applications. I have cut 12 waterbottles and many other weird items. As you can see It helped my win the Pomona Forging clinic competition in 2005. DOn't know how mwny more I will be participating in. The shoulder is not holding up too well. I need to save it for forging.

Sorry, about the only full sized blades I make these days wouldn't qualify for the competitions. Those comp cutters are just way too small for me. ;)

David those look wicked. Loving it. Are you swinging hard at the paper rolls, or just push cutting through those??
