The speculation about blades makes sense - however, TSA knives shows a number of fixed blade "Buddy" knives for sale, said to be a cooperative effort between Hess and GEC. No idea how long ago these were made, though.I bought one last year and it took an extra long time, which was an ongoing problem and why the website stopped selling the knives until there was stock. That's what the website owner told me.
I guess the stock never came. This leads me to believe they aren't interested in making knives for the public at the moment. I got the impression from my transaction that I was more of a bother than a customer. I was so jacked about the knife by the time it arrived that I didn't even want it around and sold it. It was a shame because the knife was a really nice large caper in cocobolo. Cut off you nose to spite your face kinda thing.
Otoh, the Hess blanks came from GEC, so maybe their supply of blades dried up or became too expensive. Lord knows GEC ain't got time for that. Just speculation on my part.
Who knows. It's a shame, they are really nice traditional style knives.
