Show me your horn!

BM, thanks! As far as I know they only made the swing guards in one size, discontinued as of this year I believe. Offhand I'd say it's around 4"-4 1/2" closed. 420 steel on that one, D2 on the canittler.

I like the powder horns. My powder horn and priming horn are both made of Bison horn. They're gorgeous. I really need to add some horn handled knives to my collection.

BTW, how's the steel in those Spanish made Hen & Rooster knives? What alloy is it? How does it take/hold an edge? The reason I ask is because they make a copy of the Puma White Hunter for less than 1/2 the price.

I'm thinking about making horn handle scales to replace the cracked wooden scales on my 1985 Khukuri.

My understanding is it's 440 C. It seems to handle like the other 440 C knives I have, so I think that must be it. It's good stuff.

I just added to my sheephorn collection with a couple of 3-bladers. Oddly enough, both have the same serial number of my favorite running back of all time, Jimmy Brown, #32.

First is a 1 of 50 Canal Street cannitler in D2 steel at 3-5/8" closed.

Funny thing, even on the COA that came with the knife, they list this at 3-1/2 inches, but it measures exactly 3-5/8" just like most other canoe patterns.

Second one is 1 of only 46 made, a Tidioute stockman in 1095 at 4-1/8" closed.

I really like these GEC stockman patterns, with the muskrat clip main and no half-stops. The springs are still nicely stout, but they pull smooth.
Both knives made in 2007, right here in the gool ol'e US of A.

Here's the only Horn I have:

jack [mdl.73] red buff.
jack [23] 2nd cut ram
moose [53 or 54 ] black buff
rear knife pioneer [mdl23] red buffalo spiral cut
rear knife is my favorite user 2 deer --lots of hay string & extensive cardboard cutting tests.

congrats to blackmamba you got a horn gec stock. really some outstanding horn handled knives in this post, for the uninformed sheep & ram horn wo'nt chip or break if dropped on rock. the horn is striated [layered] & merely bruises. really a premium handle since it's warm to touch, grips very well & super tuff. the only danger is horn bettles or certain insects. however i imagine rodents would like to chaw on it.
