Show Off Those Neck Knives!

Awesome knives, if I may ask though, how is it used the strange one with two points and three edges? I asume its a self defense knife made for ripping, but how do you use the top edges, It looks like they are sharpened?

Yup, all the edges are sharpened on that one. It's a Warren Thomas full Ti Rainer ring. I suppose
it is aimed at SD but it's a pretty handy wee knife for mail, box opening etc too.

If you wanted to use it for boxing I would personaly use it in reverse grip (like a kerambit). That
would be the best way to get use out of all the edges.........if you can't shoot them or hit them
with a stick first. :p:thumbup:

QUESTION FOR GUYON, JAXX, SOMBER, AND ANYONE ELSE WHO LOVES MURRAY CARTER KNIVES....

What would you guys think if Murray Carter made a skeletonized necker? I've been thinking about this lately, and I wanted to get some thoughts from ya'll on it. If I ever don't carry my Carter, it's because I want something lighter and smaller that won't "print" as much, like my Izula. But my Murray Carter is hands down the best cutter and slicer of any knife I own.

Just imagine one of these knives below, except without scales and with hammer finish all the way down the handle... What would you think?

I emailed him about it asking if it could be done, and he said it's possible but I don't know if he's 100% sold on the idea. I bet if we all harass him about he might put one up on his site. What do you think?

Are these neck knives or expensive kitchen cutlery? They don't seem to look like most neck knives - but they're good looking. :)

They are definitely neck knives, and yes they are unique. They are made by Murray Carter who is a 17th generation Yoshimoto bladesmith. I have one, and it's the best knife I own. They are expensive, but some of the best out there.

I would buy a skeletonized version, but I think the handles are the important aspect of his knives that make them feel like an extension of your body. The micarta handles on my wharnie make the knife all the better, but I understand where you're coming from in regards to printing and the overall weight (swing) of the necker as you move around. It'd be a toss up, and I'd say that as long as Murray Carter is the one making the blades and the finished product, I don't see how it wouldn't be a success.

jgon, I saw your other thread and replied there already... Short answer is YES! ...I'd be all over a skeletonized necker from Mr. Carter. :)

Okay - they just have a different look than knives like the Izula or Beckers for e.g. :)

My favorite is the BM 210TK. Love these knives. Alot of knife at only 5.5" AOL, and the only knife this size I feel comfortable skinning a deer with.

I have an Izulu I like a good bit also. Almost picked up a M.Carter at Blade, and may next year.

I would be interested in a skeletonized necker from Murray depending on the blade pattern and price.

These knives are from Michigan makers. The middle two knives are neckers from Jack Mosher called the Newbery. The bottom one is from Brian Harrison.
