Show off your 15's

@MattWRog True, I had a Jigged Bone one from 2014 but gave it away-those were the days. There is of course the version with a chain and shackle, they're not so scarce and you can remove the shackle and fill the hole with brass/white metal tubing.

same, i remember letting go the same ebony with end cap single blade sheepsfoot and spear back in the day. who knew if i had saved em, i could have handle donors for swaps for 15 clips with end caps.

I just don’t care for the bail on the bail and chain 15s and that's why I removed. Positive aspect of the walnut meat method (you literally take a small piece of walnut and mash in hole) is that it is easily removed with a wood skewer if you decide to put bail back. Now here are bails on 15s that I like:E26186AB-420F-48FF-8441-C1774068787F.jpegD55A7B9F-6B2F-450D-972B-27E76BCE3D59.jpeg

Last post from me here on filling bail holes…here is close up of my M&G 15 bail and chain…I just mashed in walnut meat and wiped off excess…original hole is tough to see. Its a trick I learned for dinged rifle and shotgun stocks over 40 years ago…works on scratches in furniture too. On woods the oil from the walnut helps repair the damaged area…I figured I’d try it on bone and it worked great.00B94EEA-E660-4406-9DC0-9A28DDDA09BA.jpeg

Markeologist Markeologist Very interesting tip, fond of Walnuts so that's a bonus too. Is it best with Walnuts freshly cracked open or from the bag? Do you think Pecans might work? Got a fair-sized hole on an old Mahogany table I might try it out on. But knowing the Cat, she'll notice any change and will start clawing it out ...🤣👿

Will Power Will Power , I’ve used fresh and bagged walnuts, and both English and Black as well…they all seem to work. I bet a pecan will work too. I think I learned walnut because so many gunstocks are walnut.

Ok I will ask the embarrassing question. Is there an actual definition of a #15 knife. I have always thought them to be medium sized single bolstered jacks with either 1 or 2 bladed both hinged at the same end. I have seen several that have 2 bolsters. Is there and actual definition. And for a few years I have wondered how they got their designation #15.

15 is a pattern that GEC makes. There are many different varients. Look up GEC 15 and you will find all the different releases. Hope this helps.
