Contest is Officially Over.
Let's all wait and see what the winners think of their kives!! Thank you to everyone...............Great Fun!!

Well...................some of you are not going to like this.

I'm an ivory guy.

Actually...............................an ancient mammoth ivory kind of guy.

A knife hafted in bone??????...............honestly, never could understand it.

Now, however, after doing all the research I've done to develop patterns and learn the history and traditions behind traditional slip-joint folders, I find myself looking at the photos in the old catalogs and books.............and I am surprised to say...............wondering which bone looks better!!!!

Not only the bone color, but the jigging too.

So, let's have some fun!!

For the next seven days, post a photo of the knife with your favorite bone handles. One post per person. If you want to post more, you can, but only one entry per ID. I'll throw the post numbers in a hat, and have my puppy Ginger pull one out.

Bone handled knives ONLY please. No trying to schmooze Judge Ginger with ivory photos...........it won't work!! She's not just cute, she's smart too!!!

The winner gets the ivory gents folder in the photos.

Now look boys and girls, this is not a referendum on what's better, bone or ivory. It's about which bone, color and jigging, looks best on a knife, in YOUR opinion. Be nice, watch the bone jokes as this is a family show.

And.............this is for fun and no other reason. I'm just sweetening the pot with this gents.............. hafted in genuine blue ancient mammoth ivory bark.

So let's see those knives and have a little fun.

The last picture is of Ginger, you can't have her.

But she will be fair and impartial picking the winner.

Thanks for the contest. Not my knife, not my scan (thanks 2Toes/John Hanlon), but I really like this bone.

I've always marvelled at the jigging on this smaller knife. Such detail on a little 3"-handle!!

Both sides are equally beautiful!!

Wow, what a generous offer. I'll break out my camera and ask my daughter for help posting a decent-looking pic. This is a wonderful give-away, the scales on your folder are outstanding, and the steel is wonderful as well.

What a nice gesture Pappy! Here's a Case Bose Dog leg jack collaboration in jigged bone:

Please don't enter this one, as I already have posted number 3! (I rubbed some Alpo on #3 anyway so there's no point:D)
This swell center Jack is another favorite of mine. Not only is it nice Schrade Cut Co. Peachseed, but it wraps around a curved surface!!

I'd have too hard a time picking a favorite from amongst my various knives, so I'm going to go with this one by Reese Bose:

Fantastic & generous contest Pappy .I love jigged bone.I have a few custom slipjoints with jigged bone scales.I think out of my knives, the nicest jigged bone I have is on the nicest custom slipjoint I own,a Reese Bose warncliff whittler Hand jigged & the jigging size is proportioned perfectly.Hand dyed, again, perfection

This was a hard choice to make for me,because I have two knives from John Howser with older antique jigged bone from a German production knife Co.,on them, that are quite gorgeous.I picked the Reese Bose to enter because it is all sole authorship.

Good luck everyone,Thanks Pappy,
-Vince :)

Very generous and FUN contest!

Since I did read it was restricted to folders, here's my "traditional" bone handled hunter:

Thanks for the cool contest!

For clarification, the contest is not restricted to folders.
Lots of very fine bone on traditional fixed blades too!!

Keep Care,

Pappy

So here are the two knives from John Howser I was telling you about. I'll stick with post #8 for my entry, though
Thanks Again,
-Vince

Here is my favorite of the recent purchases. Jigged bone from Canal Street Cutlery.

thanks very much for the chance, this is a fun contest.

i think my favorite jigging is on this boker trapper that i owned for a few months. decided the pattern wasn't for me (but i do like GEC's pioneer trapper) so it moved on. it was dark brown, almost black in the middle, so you couldn't really see too much color anyways. i like the black and white besides. pictured with a Case equal end pen.
