Pardon my dumbassness, but what are these razors?
For the last 10 years I've been shaving with a Mach 3, but have always had the curiosity of these razors.
Could somebody please school me on these?

The best cure for dumbassness is to ask. So here we go... :D

The first one is a Merkur Futur and the second is a 1962 Gillette Slim Adjustable. Try either with some nice soap and a decent blade and you'll never go back to those overpriced plastic Mach 17's again. ;)

Re he he healy!
I was actually on a website called shavenation.com, and watching some videos led me to impulse buying. About 5 clicks later I bought an Edwin Jagger DE89L.
Don't mean to hijack the thread, but just what soap do you recommend?

The EJ DE89L is a great razor from what a lot of people say.
Check out the Shave of the Day? Thread to see what soap I and others like. Soap is a personal thing and opinions differ from person to person. (But I swear by ARKO.)

When did Gillette take over Merkur?:p

A good soap to start with is something along the lines of Proraso, but any of the better, read not dollar store soaps, will be a good place to start. I checked out what they offer at shavenation.com and they are all good soaps so any of those will work.

Right now I am down to 3. Proraso cream, Proraso Green Tea and Aloe soap and L'Occtaine Cade soap. All three work for me and I like the scents of each. The Gentlemen's Quarter makes some great soaps, but they are closed right now, even their web site is gone:eek::(, but they are suppose to be open again in the spring. I hope they are because I really like their soaps.

The EJ 89 is a great razor, the fit and finish on it is outstanding. The only difference between the 89 and the 89l is the lined handle. I started out with the 89L and still use it but I got hooked on vintage Gillette razors:o

I knew it was a typo, I make them all the time:o you should see the comments I get in PMs when I say I am working on a knife that is made from 13/16th thick steel when I mean 13/64th

I've been watching so many Gillettes on eBay lately that I just have Gillette on my mind.

Oh well, there are far worse obsessions that I could have... :D

Well I was going to do a group shot as an update, but to be honest I have just been too busy/lazy to do it:o This is the razors only because the soaps are still more less the same, with the loss of TGQ sample and the addition of some Porarso Cream

Of course I still have my EJ89L but for some reason I can't find a picture of it, but it looks as good as the day I got it. And now I just may have worked out the purchase of 5 more razors, but I wont know for sure till next week. What 5? Well there is a couple of Ball End Techs, and another Fat Handle Tech but cased in the group, a non Franken razor New, and the one that I want the most out of the group a Single Ring Old Type.

I also modified my Omega boars hair brush, it is now a silvertip, and I bought a super badger as well. I had some Col Ichabod Conk Bay-Rum Shaving Soap, but as much as I liked the scent and the lather, any time I got near it my sinuses would clog up, so I played it forward to another member. I hope it works for him.

Looking good, Unk!

I'm waiting for an open comb Aristocrat to turn up at the right price. ;)

More to come.

When I was just a wee lad, I used to see all those fancy bottles on the barber's shelf and think they must contain pure liquid magic.

I just picked this one up last week, full and still in the box...

BONUS: It smells awesome!

I have seen hundreds of those fancy bottles, but I was never able to touch them:( My uncle collected Avon bottles:p I haven't seen him in ages, they moved into the Hamilton Ontario area, and then I moved out here to Winnipeg Manitoba so I don't know if he still has all of them or not.

I do remember as a kid though that when his oldest daughter got married, he converted her bedroom into a little Avon Bottle Museum. He was a very organized man and if he still has them, they would be in perfect condition with their boxes. I really hope that my cousins know what they have on hand when he passes, he would be pushing 80 by now.

What's that white thing behind the Wilkinson blades, just left of the Aqua Velva?

yep, Walgreens special styptic. I've not needed it yet, but it comes in handy when the Wife cuts the dog's nails too short!
