We got a thread for Old to New Case.

Why not one for the Schrade Family; Imperial, Ulster, , Uncle Henry, Old Timer, Schrade Walden, Camillus, Frontier, Kamp King, Depression and Post Depression NYKC and Hammer Brand, and all the other inlaws, cousins and neices?

If you so desire, the various contract knives for the big hardware stores like ACE, Bellancamp (spelling?) and retailers/catalog outlets like Sears, Wards, and Grants, are also welcome.

I know that some don't like the offshore made Schrade (except possibly those made in Ireland and England before Schrade USA closed.)
I think the Taylor and later BTI Schrade should be included, if for no other reason than to show the differences intended to prevent the new from being passed off as the old.

Top to bottom:
Schrade/ Cut Co / Walden NY on 3 lines Jack Knife. I believe the covers are either Ebony or dark Rosewood.

Imperial, Prov NJ shell construction 2 blade Barlow

Imperial IRELAND shell construction 2 blade Barlow.

Imperial unofficial Scout/Camp Knife. Interestingly, the 4th blade is a pen blade, not the more common to the pattern/type punch.

Ulster 2 Blade Barlow.

Ulster Official BSA Scout/Camp Knife.

I don't have a pre-Schrade NYKC Hammer Brand to compare this to.
Blades are stainless. Covers are genuine red picked bone, and it has real bolsters, not shell construction.
My understanding is the NYKC Hammer Brand and later Depression era/post-depression Schrade Hammer Brand knives used shell construction. However, I may be mistaken.

Comparison: Circa 1978 to 1986 Old Timer 858 (top) and BTI Old Timer 858OT
Obviously, there is a difference in the colors of the Delrin.

Also, the nose of the sheepsfoot is different.
Both have stainless blades, without "Schrade +" on the vintage which has 440A, or "stainless" on the BTI, which has the "440A Equivelent" 7CR17MoV.

The biggest difference, however, is the size.
The vintage Old Timer is 4 1/2 inches/115 mm closed. The BTI is only 4 7/16 inches/113 mm closed.

The BTI 858OTB is the same as the BTI 858OT, but has real saw cut bone handles, and the blade steel upgraded to "440C Equivelent" 9CR18MoV.

Comparison: 1978 - 1987 Old Timer 7OT and Taylor/BTI 7OT.
My vintage 7OT shown is a "4 Pin" with a 1095 blade. All the Taylor/BTI 7OT have 7CR17MoV blades.
(I also have a vintage "Schrade +" 7OT, but do not have access to it, or my vintage 6OT, at this time. I also don't recall if they are three or four pin.)

Obivous at a glance difference again, is the colors of the saw cut Delrin.
Also, the Taylor/BTI is only 0.5 inches thick, mark to pile side, while the vintage Schrade made is 5/8 inch thick. View attachment 1596192

Isn't that thread for the pre-2004 (Schrade)/2007 (Camillus) Made in USA knives only?
Are the post 1988 fire Imperial's made in Ireland, and the English made Schrade IXL's welcome?
(not that I have one of the latter to show off)

My appologies. I thought it would be nice to show the affordable, available new BTI and Taylor Schrades and explain/show the differences, as well as the older ones. :(

Mods, please lock this thread if it is out of line.

My favorites are the Uncle Henrys (I prefer stainless) and the older Waldens and Cut Cos. Here's a few faves.

Schrade made some fantastic knives and I've picked up a few along the way. The 93OT is one of my favorite designs because of it's size, serpentine frame, the blade combination and it's rounded bolsters.
Here's a couple that together show both the sleek Turkish clip and the robust Sheepfoot blades that Schrade used.
