Show Time

I have said this before but David has to pay a Gun Dealers cost to have a table. Sure his wife gets to show her scrim work but Buck knives take up 90% of the space. And he sharpens for free.

As important as the knives and displays are a folding or lightweight wheeled cart that will carry all your display in one trip. I push one small one and pull one that is only 3/4 big enough. Larry Oden has the best one I've seen, it folds up and fits under the table and carry's a really big load. ( If starting from scratch, design your display to be taken apart and hauled all at once.)
And then you will need a table cover of some design. Several people have fancy ones that have Buck emblems or BCCI emblems sewn into fabric. I use a big piece of fake leather auto seat material. Then the cover gives you some security to put stuff under your table. If you design upright display then be sure to figure in having the proper sized screw clamps for the table style provided. Small clamps don't always work.

A nice lightweight large cloth to cover your display at night is good, as are pieces of foam or furniture pads to shield your display boxes as they travel.

This stuff is still really handy if you only have two boxes. As David will agree, most folks spend more time fussing with their display than they do polishing their knives. You also can't beat nice descriptions of each knife to educate the public.

A Trap club buddy ask us to do the Silver City show with him so, we got a table and are now loaded and headed to it. We are looking forward to a good show. We did this show for for 8 years and haven't displayed at it for the last 2. So, here we are back doing 3 shows a year. DM

Here we are just about set up. A lot different than just throwing a arm load of guns on the table. This convention center is different than others. It has several rooms so you stroll down hall ways making your way to large rooms. I took off the day off in order to give us enough time for every thing we needed to do. So, we are ahead of some others.
By 9 am tomorrow it should all be full. We're looking forward to seeing old friends and discussing Buck knives. DM

looks like you got a good handle on it already. looking forward to more pics of the event. hope ya have another great show Sir.

i sure like that handle setup on your furniture dolly. very smart setup.

Thanks, jbm. At the Las Cruces show people are in a hurry to view all the show and look for a deal. Here they will chat for a while and ask how your doing. Here I know about every vendor. There is no way I could recall them all at a large show. So, a different flavor. I'll keep you posted. I don't know if they have the center wired for wifi but I think they do. So, we'll get some photos up. DM

Sharp new dolly, DM...glad it is working out well for you.

You've noted the best "flavor." Enjoy the chats with friends.

A good day at the show and we saw good traffic. This is Frank M. a good knife maker who worked for Bob Loveless in 1979 to about 1985. He usually comes to shows and we'll talk knives and the history of custom knife makers. He knew many of them. A good easy going sort of man who still loves knives. A thrill to get to visit with him. He has met Chuck Buck. DM

We did have a lot of fun. It was worth it all. We brought summer sausage, pepper jack cheese and Ritz crackers with sliced apples for our lunch. Then my wife made some chocolate chip cookies.
When she pulled that out and began slicing some... I was sharpening and started noticing people standing around. Her being a Southern lady she had them on a platter and started offering it to vendors.
Shucks,--- I thought they were watching me.? When I turned around, I realized I'd better eat some or get left out. DM

A fine day here and we're headed out to the show. I'll get some photos loaded for you this evening of the activities. Adios, DM

Here with me is W. Clark Randall. His Father was Bo Randall's brother. He brought a Empress Trio set by to ask me about. He has hunted on E. Hogg Ranch in Florida with Bo his Uncle. He told me about all sorts of adventures he had with Bo. A real treat for me to listen to this guy. DM

The show was a success and most of the newsletters and catalogs were distributed to patrons. Not another show until October. DM

You bump into some interesting people at these shows David. I'm glad you had a good time.
