They go by several names. But usually a spear, cap lifter/screwdriver, can opener (several varieties) and a punch blade. They have been around for a long time and almost all of the manufacturers made them. They usually have a bail. Many were made for the armed forces.

I'll start it with a Camillus, Ulster and a Schrade Walden. Lets see some more please. SAKS welcome too.

It's very coincidental that this thread came up. I've been looking around at quite a few scout knives so I look forward to some pics in this thread.

Also, for the experts, is there a particular "scout" knife that is more collectible or hard to find?

Thanks for the great pics.

This was a farm fresh John Primble/Belknap Hdwr. I discovered in my wife's, grandpa's shop after he passed. It was a mess and coated with some kind of chemical. You can see where it took the dye off on the scales opposite the shield and was eating away at the carbon blades. I cleaned it, sharpened and lubed it up and it's a real gem of a pocketknife. This was the first style of knife I ever owned.

Since your allowing SAK's, this Pioneer is 30+ years old and a gift from my folks. I edc'd this for many years and the SAK 93mm alox is still one of my favorite knifes to carry

No can opener nor cap lifter, but here's one I consider very handy while in the woods:

PS. One can quite easily open a can and pop a bottle cap with just a blade - just sayin :)

I've had this Victorinox Camping knife for 25-years or so.

I have my Remington Boy Scout knife from when I was in the Scouts in the 1940s and 1950s but don't have a picture of it in my computer.

Looking forward to some great pictures.

I'm not an expert, but I do know the New York Knife Company and Remington made some a guy would like to get a hold of. Any of the old ones marked with Boy Scout are highly desirable too.

That Primble with the pen blade is a goody! Looks Ulster or Schrade made.

Of the BSA knives, king of the rare ring is the Ulster Sea Scout knife- a rigger's knife. Incredibly rare, and I've only seen 1 in nearly 20 years of looking. It had a tag for $1000.

I've got six of these I have in a photo, and one more I got last year I have not taken time to take a picture of. The picture is four Case's, a Bokerand a Craftsman made by Schrade. The one not pictures is a brown bone Ulster.

This is all I have that fits the theme...Wenger SI, made 1996 but I acquired it off a forum member in 2009.

Hal, Great Idea for a thread. Here's a few I've put away over the years. First is an ULSTER DWIGHT DEVINE & SONS.

Growing up with a scout knife has left me with a lot of great memories of the pattern. I guess that's why my old SI has remained with me for so many years. I can't look at a scout pattern with a bail and not remember my scouting days with Mr. Van, and the great people I has as friends. From age 12 to now, I always seemed to have one around close, if not on me. For so many years the scout knife was my only pocket knife in that time before I became afflicted with our disease, and it always got through whatever.

The Wenger is a great knife, Robert!

Carl.

Thanks :)

Since I got it I'm hard pressed to leave it at home...if I have other knives in pocket I'll keep the SI in my camera bag but I sure do love this knife. It would easily last a life time. I really like the scout pattern, once I'm back stateside I will hit estate sales, auctions and gun shows looking for some older examples.

I went through a "tacticool" phase but ended right back into traditional knives.

Well everybody...all your knives are just bloody fantastic I have to say, I must admit...1fartsmella's examples are just wonderfull knives:thumbup:, I have noticed this more than once when he show us his knives...so 1fartsmella...thank you so much...it really is a pleasure to view your knives.
Johnnyr's early J.Primble is a solid, reeeeeeal good looking knife as well
Awesome viewing guys-thank you :)

Sweet examples everyone! My first knife was a blue Cub Scout model purchased at Sears in the late seventies (don't remember the brand, though). I've always liked the pattern even though the only one I currently own is my Vic Alox Soldier.

Now this one is really cool!

Got this one in 2006. The little screwdriver has been very handy.
