The igniter design on this little weber spirit is crap...the line (supposedly fire proof wrapped) gets very very close to the grill side surface and mine has severe burn marks.13 months, and you fixed it already! I've been using the Bic grill lighter that my wife uses for lighting her candles, while I think about fixing the igniter on the grill.
I'm still debating:
Weber replacement igniter kit- about $40, off brand igniter from Amazon- about $20, or, probably the winner, Bic grill lighter- about $4.
Anyway, ended up replacing the whole assembly, it wasn't bad. But I foresee replacing the stupid thing again in a couple years...I'd say stick with a lighter, or be extra cool and splash it with a firesteel to really impress your guests (I'm not liable for accidents and damages).
