Show Your Broken Bush Knives (And Win a Knife)

Here is my worst. I am ashamed to tell the story of how it happened.

*ETA: Dang, I think I misread the title.

Dude, the same thing happened to me when I was a kid. It was my dad's fault.:D

I broke a Trailmaster. Same problem as the K-bars shown: shit tang design intended to make the knives easier to manufacture, rather than make a long lasting tool. And its a COMBAT knife? Granted, I'm a former Marine, and I like the K-bars history, but we can do better. I have this ODD thought that a good fixed blade should be about unbreakable by hand. Granted you can break ANYTHING if you WANT to, but some battoning should be no great feat(as long as the blade is not hammered with an 8# sledge). I failed to break an 1/8" thick knife i made, by battoning, and i was TRYING to damage it. Good tang design and heat treat. If I can do it, anyone can.

About 1 1/2 ounces of steel, or less, left in place during manufacture, and that knife would still be doing its thing- same with my trailmaster. A narrow tang gets a bad rap sometimes, but when made correctly its just as strong as a full tang, if not moreso. Its OK though, breaking knives got me making knives again.

I bent the tip of my Opinel by sticking it ina stump. So then I took a dremel tool to it. Ended up with this.

Lol worst I've ever done is break the tip off the small blade of my Dad's SAK when I was a little kid.

Not broken all the way but 2 chips out of the blade big enough to serve a salmon off of.
RS6 Predator chopping a small birch a few winters ago.

"The forest is my chapel. The trees are the pillars and walls of an endless cathedral. The wind in the trees is my choir. The land gives me water for my thirst and food for my famine. My blades grant me safe passage, give me food and make my shelter. Survival is my religion and I am it's disciple"

Where did you get this from?

I broke my Mora's tip carving a pumpkin!

Ok, not really. This is a knife I use for woodcraft, but also for various utility work around the house. Was cutting through some caulking for a sink and accidentally went too far and hit the sink - snapped the tip right off.
