Shreveport LA Hammer Inn April 20, 21st

The fun will begin about 9:00 Sat. morning. Hope all are safe getting here.

So... Is it Friday yet???

Anybody on the fence here should keep in mind that a full-time professional smith is opening his shop to all us hacks and wannabes for a few days. Dan's experience, wisdom, skills and twisted sense of humor alone are worth at least twice the price of admission.

Speaking of - yeah - it's still free. Technically anyway, but if you can make it over, please bring whatever you can donate for the propane and steel fund. Like years past, every single dollar will help balance the books of this generous maker and host.

Dan, weather looks spectacular once again. I am working on a few pounds of hill country smoked sausage, rolls, etc to bring along.

Gonna miss you Jason! Guessing you're needing to cool your jets right after that red hot Lonestar "knife" show. Hope you got a few sales/orders anyway. Looking forward to seeing the rest of you gents.

$116/night. New, close, clean. I stayed there last time.

Dang it Dan you've gone and done it now! If I hadn't made plans to be at the Old Washington hammer in I would be there..
Had a blast at these in the past with Dan and his crew

Rusty, you will also be missed. Mine is free though and wish that could sway your mind. You are such a mind full of info. There are no others that are close by that I know of but there are others that are on interstate 20. There may be a few local knifemakers that have spare rooms.

I'm going to bring something, food-wise. Thinking maybe a jambalaya. Might just cook it there on the fire, or prepare it before I leave the house. Dunno. But I'm betting we'll have a pretty good spread. Oh, and then there's the knife-making!

Dan, I wanted to come to your hammer in last year but could not make it. Any room for another Texan to come to Shreveport? I have already made reservations and am looking forward to the visit. Guess I will be your visitor traveling the greater distance. Looks like you have the Texan BBQ covered so I will bring tortilla chips and homemade hot sauce.

D.Clark, you are most welcome, and I love chips and salsa. Stalbot, looking forward to the jambalaya. Whoaho!!!

That is farther than I am. That is a haul.

Thanks Dan for hosting the Shreveport Hammer In. I got to meet new knife makers and learned some new tricks. I look forward to the fall Shreveport Hammer In.

Awesome time! Great meeting everybody and seeing folks I met at the fall hammer in. Thanks, again, Dan, for offering up your time, shop and equipment for this.

What a blast! A big thank you to Dan Graves for generously hosting another successful hammer in. Sure enjoyed visiting again with so many good folks (and Darrin too) and meeting some new faces this year. The food was excellent and the weather and enthusiasm even better. Blessed weekend.

We had some forging of damascus, a straight razor blade or two, some hardie tools, and at least one full-tang knife. We spent time working with Dan's rebuilt screamer of a forge, 80# power hammer, press, grinders, saws, welder, etc. Dan and crew worked with a few of the guys to get their steel heat treated and ready for finishing. There seemed to be a lot of conversation about application-driven knife design, integration of modern materials into traditional designs and general blacksmithing skills (thanks Joe!).

It's always interesting to see what develops between so many different backgrounds and personalities.

Hoping everyone made it home safe and sound. Thanks again Dan - already looking forward to the next one!
