Shtf pocket knife

If sh hit the fan this week it would have been either a Street Beat or Mini Skirmish. And a Leatherman juice Xe6 and buck stockman. So I probably would have been set. If I had access to or the fan was hit while I was in the car my ZT 0121, BM triage and another Juice.

Surefire E2D is always with me as well, sometimes a preon 2. That's if I had my Street Beat, shares a pocket sheath(which is awesome by the way).

BM Adamas 275, if I'm in a position to grab it. If not, I suppose it'll be whatever inexpensive folder I grabbed that day. Since "that day" has a 5-in-7 chance of being a work day, it won't be anything necessarily suited to defensive use, but I'll hope for my 5.11 Tarani Investigator or Coast FX350. Yes, I would actually (sort of) choose a Coast knife. Can't make this stuff up.

I also live in Earthquake country and this is my most likely SHTF scenario... The building where I work is tilt-up with lots of interior metal 2x4's and drywall so I may need to get through that. I always have a robust folder (Strider SMF, Grayman Satu, TSF SuperBeast) on me in addition to my Leatherman Charge TTi. I usually have a Busse Skeleton Key in a necker sheath just in case. I've got a full first aid / emergency kit in my car along with a Swamprat Kill Devil Sniper Hawk, Glock entrenching tool, and an Busse NMFSH to help get others out of the rubble.

Shtf knife?
I take that would mean a gross disregard of what the world thinks otherwise?
So damn the consequences,
if I could
I would carry a bagful of whatever I can possibly carry.
But should I be caught unaware of the impending situation
I hope that my gerber artifact
along with a 15-blade dispenser pack
Would eventually be able
To prove itself
And be helpful
in those trying times
Whilst trying to acquire everything necessary
in the name of self preservation.

I always carry my Wilson Combat Eagle IWB even at work in dress pants, so at least I'd have a full-sized knife on me.

After work, same thing but in addition either an Emerson Super Commander, CQC8, or ZT 0560 or 0560BW is in the RFP also. So at least I'd have one, maybe two full-size folders on me. If I'm going out after dark, a Surefire E2D Defender Ultra (500 lumens) goes with me.

My Maxpedition bug out bag in the car has all kinds of stuff in it, it would help if I could make it to the car. An ESEE 4, Lionsteel M7, three good flashlights, spare batteries, and a Leatherman Charge Ti multitool awaits along with paracord, Spyderco Sharpmaker, Nikon binoculars and a couple types of fire starters. I'd be pretty set at least with the basic stuff.

I often think that when I go on road trips beyond 100 miles from home that I should really have a few more SHTF supplies than I would normally consider important. This assumes you can fit them in your vehicle. Yes, the old bug out bag or in my case, bug out tub... Something happens and what you have with you is all you got. There is likely no trip home to agonize over which of your knives you're going to take with you or to grab tarps, tents, sleeping bags, your generator, first aid supplies, and whatever you consider important. So just maybe, one should consider a good reliable fixed blade to be kept inside your vehicle. Most of us are tethered to our vehicles and the odds are, you can get to your vehicle.

A knife is a no brainer. So, as mentioned, more than likely it is your EDC knife, but you might consider keeping a fixed blade in your vehicle. Sure in an earthquake and being trapped inside an elevator, the fixed blade for prying (the old BK-2 comes to mind) would do you no good, but you can only carry so much stuff on your person.

As mentioned above, bodily wastes may give no warning prior to striking the air circulator, therefore I will probably have my normal EDC if it happens daytime and nothing if I'm asleep at night.

If the poop would hit the fan, I would rather have raincoat or some sort of tarp.

Some great ideas, I know some say your EDC but I'm sure you all have a few knives you rotate. I'd much rather have my ZT 0350 then my mini grip if SHTF. An earthquake or a tornado is a great example, It doesn't have to be aliens landing to turn into a SHTF. I think having a small SAK alox is a great idea I plan on picking up a cadet. Thanks for all the great posts

Why am I suddenly homeless with only a knife? Why can't I go home? Why can't I go stay with friends or family?

Are we talking an urban or rural area? I would submit that everyone traveling in remote areas needs to have certain self sufficiency preps at the ready. You need enough gear on hand to get by for 3 days... A knife isn't enough. Not for any kind of comfortable existence in any case. I want food, water, and shelter items ready. :)

If you are in an urban area the particular knife probably will not make that much difference. A sharp edge to cut things and a pointy end to poke things will be handy, beyond that it doesn't matter that much.

Temperature appropriate apparel, comfortable shoes, a bit of cash (for a taxi, water, food etc when electronic payment systems aren't working) and a charged cellphone might make more of a difference than the ultimate knife.

For me it would be the victorinox classic that stays on my keychain. It would be accompanied by whatever larger knife I am carrying that day. Ideally a multi-tool.

If you don't think something can happen to you then you don't think. I'd would want to make sure I could process wood in case I needed a fire so I'd probably want my cold steel recon 1

My memory is getting poor, but i do remember going to work and forgetting my knife, (YEARS AGO !) I still remember the anguish and feeling of none preparedness. I can't imagine, SHTF without a knife. I carry three daily. I usually use one or all ever day. This thread has caused me to think of,once again attempting to carry my Cold Steel Recon1. I wish i had a dollar for ever time i heard "anyone got a knife?" Can't imagine how often i would hear it, in an SHFT situation. regards Henry
