SHUN FOLDING STEAK KNIFE

The fools! Everyone knows it's roving gangs of Indian (?) farmers with kukris and insatiable bloodlust, traveling the midwest and butchering animals.

Anyway, obvious facts aside, that knife is probably my oldest "maybe I'll get one of those" that I still have not gotten. I think I was eyeing that before I bought my first Endura way back in 2012 or so.

Ditto. I've been "almost buying" that for nearly a decade. They were about 50% cheaper when I first saw them.

Typically my ZDP Delica sees steakhouse duty. The spydiechef went last time though.

I've always admired those, too. A few years ago, my dad was complaining about the steak knives at the restaurant at the retirement community. It was an opportunity to buy one. But I knew he'd resent the cost. So I bought him the Opinel Garden knife. Similar blade shape to a steak knife, stainless, and different from his EDC Opinel.

Enjoy your new knife!

I had one of the Japanese ones. It's a nice knife. But, I sold it.

I just don't eat enough steak to need a EDC steak knife.

I like these a lot. But then I like knives a lot. I'll bet none of you knew that.

So ......

I used it tonight

Came fairly sharp and was nice to use

After I was done I got it very sharp in a few seconds on a jewelstik

All in all I like it

I want to know if that steak is really medium well...:eek::mad:

Seen this in the A.G. catalog that showed up today. It's weird they don't list the brand, but it looks like a nice knife.

The idea of buying a nice knife and then using it to cut perpendicular to a ceramic plate...that hurts just thinking about it. I'm probably overly dramatic about that though. Also, I can't imagine ever taking a knife out of my pocket to eat, or bringing my own dining cutlery in general, whether it's a fancy restaurant or elsewhere. My family would not enjoy that one bit. And the staff would most certainly be shocked. Maybe this is a more common phenomena in the US or Europe, but I've never witnessed it on my trips.

But if it brings you guys joy, then more power to you.

I've been debating this very knife. I couldn't decide if I would like this better as a steak knife or a Boker Kwaiken.

IMO, for this purpose, the kwaiken is a bit bulky and awkward (I have a customized one and like it) compared to the Shun/KAI which are much more light and balanced for dining. :)

A Mercator k55 cat knife is a dandy steak knife too. In fact it is a nice pairing knife too. Not fancy but a real slicer.

Lance Leon. You’d likely not notice us if you were in the room with us. We don’t make a show of it. Restaurants typically have poor quality cutlery that never gets sharpened. Using a pocket knife to cut ones food is far less noticeable than picking the whole steak up with your fork and taking bites out of it.

I’ve never heard of a dedicated folding steak knife before this thread. My first thought was that must be a European thing.
