Sick and Tired of 8Cr13MoV! PLEASE GO AWAY!!

But when I go looking to add to my collection and I am trying to find a budget folder, I see so many knives with this steel and I just want to see something different/better.

That's the thing-simply due to costs of supply and such, if you find something better, it's...gonna cost more. If you want to see something different, there's AUS-8, the 440 series, and of course, the classic "surgical stainless steel", oh, and yeah, Kershaw has started to use 3Cr13 on their budget knives too, so there's that, which is different, though not better. The thing is, budget knives aren't made with 8Cr13 cause the makers all think it's the world's greatest steel or cause the makers of 8Cr13 have incriminating photos of the CEO, they're made with that steel cause for that price range it and AUS-8 are about as good as you're going to get. As steel gets better, it gets more expensive, which is the reason you don't see budget knives in better steel.

I've had pretty good luck across many brands with the offending steel. Doesn't rust easily and I live in the swamp. Holds a decent edge and easy to sharpen. For a cheaper knife steel it's pretty good. Too each their own.

It's a shame when one decides to forego purchases
Because of biases.
Unfortunately, this would hardly effect change for the wants of a minority of purchasers.
Manufacturers are geared for maximum profit
And big businesses do things to please itself.
Bottom line is, not buying creates a limit on frivolous purchases.
Which is a good thing for the spendthrift.
Unfortunately, it also spells the end of buying sprees for those who reject the present realities.
And with the globalised practices of outsourcing
things could hardly be what a thoroughbred afficionado wishes it to be.
This really is spells the end ....
