SIDEWINDR From LA PORTE, TX straight ripped me off

I am a retired Lieutenant with the Michigan DOC.I hate imposters!I once had a guy at the bar say he worked for the DOC.When I asked where he worked he stated a town that has 3 prisons. When I asked which one he worked at he could not give me an answer.I told him to get away from me that I hated liars! I hope you recover your knife.Talk to the postmaster about if it could be considered mail fraud.

Appreciate the good words, I'm down in Transylvania County, SW of Asheville. I'm a retired LEO and not at all a fan of those who impersonate or otherwise tarnish the badge.

Thank you. I'm not too far way. Up in Watauga county.

If not mail fraud, I'm pretty sure this would fall under obtaining obtaining property by false pretense. Not sure if the law is the same where you are, but the following is an excerpt from North Carolina state law regarding the subject:

§ 14-100. Obtaining property by false pretenses.
(a) If any person shall knowingly and designedly by means of any kind of false pretense
whatsoever, whether the false pretense is of a past or subsisting fact or of a future fulfillment or
event, obtain or attempt to obtain from any person within this State any money, goods,
property, services, chose in action, or other thing of value with intent to cheat or defraud any
person of such money, goods, property, services, chose in action or other thing of value, such
person shall be guilty of a felony.

Thanks brothers I'm looking into it as we speak. I found that the fake receipt he used was a blank one he had on hand ,what the heck. It my bad, now I know why people make people with low feedback, ship first. I'm learning , this won't happen again.

I've just instituted a ban for 30 days. If he hasn't taken care of his obligation or commitment by the end of that period, the ban will become permanent.

Petiepablo, keep me posted as to the status of your trade and also remind me if I haven't made the ban permanent at the expiration of 30 days (without his fulfilling his part of the deal).

Petiepablo, hopefully you called the postal inspector already. Pretty sure they'll follow up on it since he used a fraudulant tracking number and isn't just stating it got lost in the mail. Or....

Call whatever jurisdiction he lives in and explain the situation to them. Maybe they could do a knock and talk and recover you knife? Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Glad to have a mod from NC, im from NC. I moved to HI from Boone, worked in different parts of NC in law enforcement and i too have no respect for posers of that profession.

USPS won't do anything, they're under staffed and over stretched.

For future reference to the rest of you guys/gals, when something like this happens, it's best to contact the LEA where the other party lives, not where you live. Call their non-emergency number and speak with the criminal investigations division. You will file a complaint telephonically or via email. Make sure you supply the investigating officer with all relevant communiques. Keep in mind that CSI and Law and Order are tv, real LE work is nothing like that. While this is very important to you, it is going to be low priority for the department and if the value is under $500, you are talking about a low end misdemeanor. They will investigate, and will do what they can to help you, but police work is prioritized based on many different factors and simple theft is low.

I was a LEO in a previous life and will gladly help any of you out if I can. Should the need arise, feel free to email me.

Well, "from" is a stretch in my case. I'm a "halfback" but I do live in a beautiful area of NC. :p

I currently live in and am from Boone. Wow, really small world. And I hope everything works out well for Petiepablo. This kind of thing makes me sick.

Morganton here fellas! If you're, or have been, law enforcement in western NC, you've probably met me. I work the front door at a little state hospital...:D

Hate situations like this! It tarnishes the community!

They still scare the kids around here with tales about "Morganton"... :p

Hey, Petiepablo, shoot me an email with your particulars. I've got something I'm going to send your way. Not what you were trading for but consider it a consolation prize.
It's a straight knife made by a former (state & local) LEO and will be coming to you from a retired federal LEO. Hopefully that will restore some of the luster to the blue.

That's awesome Blues! Thanks for helping make this community what it is, & why I come back every day!

That is very generous of you Blues.
To the OP, unfortunately there are some instances when we can only do so much. We do hope that you can move forward and not let this experience sour you on future deals. There are a ton of really good individuals, knifemakers, craftsmen, and dealers here.

Wow, looks like I dodged a bullet! I had a very nice SMF up for sale or trade about 2 weeks ago and Sidewindr contacted me asking if I wanted to trade the SMF for this exact same knife. I said I wasn't interested. Thank Goodness it wasn't a knife I AM interested in!!!! Sorry for your bad deal Petie but look at it this way, you took a bullet for another innocent would be victim... You're a hero to me!
