Had a workout this morning with a Bill Siegle reality check chopper...

This one is 16 3/4" OAL with an 11 1/4" blade length made of 5/16" THICK 5160 with a differential heat treat, flat sabre ground bevels and G10 handle slabs.....

This Walnut tree was the chosen "victim"...one that has been long dead and totally dried out...no 'green wood' here...this was a tough old tree...

Entire workout was about 40 minutes long...blade STILL cuts paper:cool:

One guy walking by during this exercise asked if I wanted to borrow a saw:)

another guy asked me if my winch worked...I said "yeah why ? He said...you could just pull that thing over.....:D thanks for thinking of me I said, but I was having too much fun.....

you've got my respect!

Man, I get tired just looking at those pics! How's your arm? Hatsing off for working that knife good.

Wow, 40 minutes is more than amazing.
Not only is it an outstanding chopper but eats the shavings as well. ;)

I have to admit that these kind of threads really trip my trigger. :)
Seasoned walnut is some pretty tough stuff, kudos to you and,
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for the for the comments..

..I really enjoy using these big blades..

....afterall.........it is what they are made for;)

Wow! Must have been a bit dicey when the tree actually fell.

Great thread. That is an awesome Siegle chopper. I really love his designs, especially his choppers!!!!!

Nice chopping action there. I don't think I have seen one of his thicker than 1/4 inch thick (except maybe a kukri?).

I actually just pushed it over.. before cutting it completley through....so no problems there...

Thanks again everyone.....GREAT blade Bill!! I just missed getting this blade by about 5 minutes when Bill originally posted it for sale....the original buyer saw my regrets posted and he offered it to me a few days later!!!!!

(said it was a bit too big for his needs I think)

Hey, if you want to spend 40 minutes with a fixed blade instead of 40 seconds with an axe, more power to you. :)
