Significant others and knives

Maybe try getting a pink Leek and sitting down with her showing her how
to flip it. Get her acquainted with it slowly. Let her flip it, cut a few things,
just show her how useful a " tool " it is. Keep reminding her it's just a tool,
not a weapon and giving her pointers on how to handle it safely.
This is the key to general acceptance of knives, no matter if its a girlfriend or a public "servant".:D

I'm with tom. When I was married it was , "yeah...nice..ho hum, how much, why". Now that I do not have to answer to anyone, I don't sweat it and my collection can grow as large as I want it too. Don't get me wrong as I really did have a good wife, she just wanted to control EVERYTHING. So I have to say that my new found freedom IS very nice!:D:thumbup:

if that doesnt work you could go the completely other way and keep reminding her thats its a weapon of self defense, meant strictly to incapacitate other people, give her pointers on which arteries are best to cut, quickest way to deanimate human bodies, which organs are best to stab at and were they are located etc.........

She supports it 100%. As long I spend my money and not "our" money it's not an issue.

Plus she's always borrowing them, but she says she doesn't need one....

I haven't figured her out yet. :):)

...OR you could show her how nice it is to have a sharp knife in the kitchen! Whatever it takes!

thanks for the advice and the laughs......unfortunately my girl is one of those not quite rational women who are nearly impossible to convince using well thought out, rational arguments. that being said i think i might start even smaller than that and try something simple like a twocan or the the carabiners something that is practical.

to give you an idea, i suggested she use the very small blade to open things like dvds and she said "i have nails for that" one tough nut to crack. and i was told im not allowed to crack it with a knife :-P

btw a spyderco ladybug3 may not be a bad idea. its tiny, but handy. an assisted opener may be too much for her to handle if she fears knives a lot.

It's funny - I can't imagine life without a knife in my pocket and there are people that are scared to death of them.

SPXTrade - I did get her on the kitchen knives. I got rid of our old junk and got some decent Henckels and keep them very sharp. She comments all the time about how much she likes them.

Pocket knives are a different story.

Ah heck, just toss her an ET from across the room, and let the EMT's take it from there...

So only the ugly ones are rational?? :D

no. actually, none of them are. but i figured slades lady must be good looking at least, cause if he knows she is totally irrational then she must be making up for it in other ways.....unless he likes them irrational and ugly:(

LOL. Who knows, maybe im like House, determined to be a miserable ass.

.Nah she is a keeper, which is why i need a long term solution for her to deal with my knife addiction.

like i told Thomas the other day, i am planning on taking my first real vacation in two years in the next few weeks......

what will it consist of? a weeks worth of sleeping in and halo 3, and one incredibly expensive day trip to NGK (6hrs each way) to drop as much coin as i can on kershaws and picking up my first (and maybe second and third) ZT's. i don't see my addiction waning anytime in the near future.

You should swing by and pick me up and we can go together........anybody else between MD and far SW VA....I'm thinkin' FORUM ROADTRIP...:D

It sounds like you really know how to plan a vacation.

Not only does she understand, she supports it.

On the flipside she's seen me sell from the same collection when we've needed fast cash, so when I do spend lot on a paticular knife she figures I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't worth it, besides she gets even come spring with the plants and landscaping.:D

Let me know when you plan this...I'll meet you there!

It is when we put our knives ahead of our wives that the problems arise !!!
So put your wife before your knife and we will be allowed to live our life !!!

Mine is coming around - As long as I sell one now and then and support her vice - purses.

MD

LOL, so true bluedog!! I brought my wife home a new Coach purse a while back to offset my JYDII SG2 and Spydie Military D2. It's the only way to go:thumbup: Just keep them spouses happy and the collection is free to grow!!

Actually, on a serious note, my wife is really supportive of my love for knives. I have been wanting to go into business for myself for years, and recently it was my wife who pushed me into finally going for it. She knows how much I love cutlery and as a result of her prodding, my cutlery shop and online store will soon be open for business. All kidding aside, I've been blessed with a pretty great woman!

Cheers,
Jon
