Now that the Sebenza passaround is off the ground, its time to start a new one! Again, this will be a fairly normal passaround: keep the knife for one week maximum and then send it to the next person.

However, due to the prohibitively high cost of a knife like this, every participant will have to contribute $35 to purchase the knife. We will require ten people (myself included) to sign up to start the passaround. I'm sorry, but no international participants for this one.

NOTE: A passaround has inherent risks to it. If you choose to participate, you agree that the money being sent is not in exchange for any good or service. Everything will be done to make sure everything runs smoothly, but there is certainly a possibility of the knife getting lost.

Signups should be emailed to me. After we have 10 people signed up, we will work out payment issues. I have paypal, so that would work best...

When sending the knife, send by a method that requires signature confirmation and insure the package for $300. This will be more expensive, but it puts everyone at a much lower risk.

Finally, when the passaround is complete, the knife will be raffled off using the California state lottery.

Signup List:
im2smrt4u (Paid)
TheBadGuy (Paid)
DaveH (Paid)
lmalterna (Paid)
Randal16-1 (Paid)
OwenM (Paid)
Greymoor (Paid)
dsmxi (Paypal)

Please email me to confirm your interest in this passaround. Thanks everyone!

UPDATE: One more spot! Join up now!

I am in!!!!:D

(Edited to add)-If I keep entering, I have to win one of these Damn passarounds, hell one of them is 1-8 chance, one of them is 1-7 and now this one. Something has to have Bad Guy written on it:D

whadahey. :D

Email shortly. Oh, and you might want to get people's phone # too.

If I'm reading this right...

A: I'll need to ante up $35 for the privlege of handling the knife for some period of time.

B: I'll need to send the knife on to a domestic US address for the next person in the passaround after that period of time, using insured mail.

And C:, after the 'passaround' is complete, only those 10 persons that anted up will be available to win via the 'raffle'...

Am I correct so far? If so, let me ask the following...

1. Where do I send the $35?

2. How long do I get to keep the knife? IS keeping it for two weeks instead a possibility? (I only ask because I often work 60 hour weeks, and travel on the weekends at times)

3. Can I 'use' the knife, say for camping purposes?

4. If my turn is due, can I pass it to another in the passaround loop, in effect taking my turn when it's more advantageous for me? (In other words, can I request to have it in my hands during a time period that I'm likely to get the most use out of it?)

5. When will the raffle be held, in approximate weeks, six months from now?

Very interested,

Mel

You are correct about the details.

Here are your answers:
1. Paypal me at im2smrt4u@charter.net or email me for my physical address.
2. One week.
3. Yes, but please do not intentionally abuse or "stress test" the knife.
4. I could put you pretty much anywhere before I send it out, but it would be a bit confusing to try and change after the passaround begins.
5. The passaround will be held immediately after I recieve payment from all the participants. I will purchase the knife locally, so there will be no delay in beginning the passaround.

I'll volunteer this rule of thumb for timing:

If the evaluation time is a week, it will take roughly two weeks per person, and that's if everything goes smoothly.

And trust me, if anyone has been following the Sebenza passaround, I will remind all the participants when its time to mail it on!! To keep us on schedule:D None of this disappear for a month deals like on the Temperance passaround. 8 days goes by without a confirmation of mailing and we dispense a BFC collection crew ;)

That is probably pretty accurate, depending on where the knife is being sent. It is a little longer than most passarounds, but fewer participants makes it feasable.

The raffle will be held immediately after I recieve payment from all the participants.

Wait a minute! Do you know who's won the Sebenza already then?

(Or did you mean something else?)

Oops...I meant to say (type?) "passaround" not "raffle". It has been fixed...

I think he meant something else. It should be raffled off at the end of the Passaround, That way everyone hopes they win it and don't abuse it:)

See my last post...:footinmou

So let me try again...(And yes, I've read the above posts so far)

1. Does your 'week' start from the day that you've received the knife? The obvious answer is yes, but I just want to confirm this...

1a. And, being that I often 'get home late', and being that my Post Office closes early, it sometimes takes me 3 days to pick up a parcel 'after' I receive notice of initial delivery attempt, and this only if I'm 'in country'...

1b. The above also hold true for parcels that I'm shipping out...

2. If it's only the participents in the 'passaround' that qualify for the raffle; and if so, who/how determines the 'winner'?

3. I don't intend to 'abuse' the knife, but I do intend to 'use' it...so it will be a 'used' knife at the end of the passaround...does anyone here have heartburn with that?

4. If I'm out of the country during my week, this will obviously have a negative impact on my ability to fulfill my passaround obligations. Are all participents flexible enough to allow me the use the knife 'out of turn' if need be?

Anyhoo, sounds like a cool project, and I'm ready to send the $35 right now, but I'll need satisfactoy clarification to my questions first...

1. Logically, I would say yes, but if you need some accomidation, we should be able to work around it. If you are around when the passaround starts (and if its okay with everyone else), maybe I can send the knife to you first. If there is usually a delay in shipping, I would prefer that you adjust the amount of time you keep the knife accordingly.

2. Each participant will be given a number that corresponds to their order in the passaround. The winner will be the person with the number that matches the first digit of the lotto drawing held on a predecided date.

4. Like I said in number 1, we should be able to work something out.

I say if you are out of town or something come time for you get it, then I see no problem, But I don't think I like the part about you saying sometimes you take 3 days to pick up from post office and 3 days to mail it. Thats a whole extra week your telling us you might have a high end knife that 9 other people pitched in on. If everyone did what you are telling us you might have to do, that adds 3 months onto the projected completion date and raffle process. I am definatly not in on that :(

If I were to send it to him first, he could keep it for four days, plus the three days it takes him to send it. That would be okay.

But, as much as I'd like to be part of this project, having handled several of these knives, I don't want my work schedule to have a negative impact on your personal 'passaround' delivery date.

Unfortunately, my work schedule 'does' predicate that I work until I can't, and under the 9/11 mandate we're working on 'imaging systems' for the...well, let's just say we're 'busy' these days.

As it stands, I'm currently scheduled to visit the 'Middle-East' here in the near future...and while it would've been great to do a review from 'over there', you guys will have to tell me how it all worked out when I get back.

Sorry I can't partake, enjoy.

Owning a few Chris Reeve knives already, I would just buy the thing outright. Why would there be a question to the quality? I would buy any of the one piece range sight unseen and feel fine. 35.00 is pretty steep for a lottery.

As I started to post, but erased earlier, I'm going to buy one of these things before too long...they are, a great knife.

As to the $35, I'm luckier than most, and have a tendancy to win these kinds of things...I may 'always' wait the longest in lines, and may be a magnet for tailgator's as well...but I win about 50% of the drawings I enter, just apparently not this one. ;)

The funny thing is, I'm incredibly flexible and understanding...my only downfall is that I expect the same from others.

Anyhoo, someone here is going to get a kick ass knife for around $42...and I wish them all the best.
