Signup: Chris Reeve Green Beret Knife Passaround

I'd like to get in on this, but if I pay $35 to check out a knife like this, rest assured it's going to get the crap beaten out of it.
Is this a passaround for prospective buyers to find out what the knife is all about, and see what they think, or just a chance for one person to get the knife cheap? The dang thing's got a warranty, and can be refurbished if somebody's that worried about it getting scratched up or broken.
I see people post reviews of these passarounds-you use an EDC type folder for what I guess are common EDC tasks, and post comments on it...what do you do with a knife that you're supposed to be able to depend on with your life?
Yes, but please do not intentionally abuse or "stress test" the knife.
That is exactly what needs to be done with it, IMO.

note: I did not say "put it in a vise and pull 'til it breaks", but abuse is what this knife is supposed to be all about.

I'm not trying to start anything, but personally would be interested to see some meaningful feedback that reflects the (hard) use the knife is designed for, and maybe comparisons with other knives of the same size/intent. Like a Becker BK7, for instance. Two knives with similar intended uses-what are you getting for your extra $300? Or a Busse that costs $100 less. What do you give up, what do you get? That kind of thing. It would be really cool to see someone with a Simonich Raven get a hold of it, and compare the two (similar knives/similar prices).

I understand if other people have something else in mind. Just my giving my viewpoint, and asking for a little clarification about what the purpose of the passaround is, before I go shouting "me too":)

Owning a few Chris Reeve knives already, I would just buy the thing outright. Why would there be a question to the quality? I would buy any of the one piece range sight unseen and feel fine. 35.00 is pretty steep for a lottery.

I understand the cost may be a bit much for some, but the Sebenza passaround is working out fine. This isn't exactly for everyone, but I think its a good way for everyone to check out a great knife that they might not otherwise be able to have.

Well, the vice bit is what I would want to avoid. ;)

I just don't want people to intentionally try to destroy it, because no matter how nice a knife is, it will break somehow.

Use the knife to its full capabilities and if it fails due to a fault in the knife, then we know how the knife would actually perform.

I'll be sayin' bye for now, to the first Sebenza passaround knife, and I used it as an EDC, and basically pulled it out everytime I'd reach for my BM 730 Ares.

The only extra care I took was in carrying it in a pocket by itself to save the finish for the next person, when I get it back:D or have buy my own than I'll worry less about the finish.

As far as, "was this a good idea?", sure it was, it gave me an opputunity to handle, and use a knife that I've always wanted but was never sure if it was worth the money. Just like buying a William Henry, which some folks can't see spending $300+ on a factory made, hand fitted knife, I can, and until you use/carry one, you'll never know.

Now after carrying the Seebie for a while, I know and this will be one of the next knives I own, either through the raffle, or if I gotta scratch, save and sell more stuff to get 1.

Sorry I didn,t mean to be so vague before, check back with me on the backend, if you don't have enough, I'm a little short with the holidays around the corner right now, but maybe I'll come into a windfall later, for now I'll just have wait and see how the first raffle turns out.

So do I. Collecting money for to purchase a passaround knife is a totally new idea, and I can see there is a bit of apprehension. I'm sure you were a bit sceptical (sp?) at the beginning of the sebenza passaround, but its working out great!

I know I can find nine people as interested in the Green Beret as I am!

BTTT. Come on you stingy bastids!!!!! Fork over $35 and get a 1-10 chance of winning on of the nicest fixed blades around and to top it off, you get to use it for a week before the winner is announced.:)

Hmmm, Maybe there is just not enough intrest in this model of knife????  :(  How about we give it two weeks and go off to another knife??:) I'm thinking Sng ;)

Done. Of course, an SnG would be about $40 per person, but I'd go for it.

Come on ppl, this is a solid piece of s30v....HOW CAN THAT NOT BE GOOD????

I don't think an SnG would be a great passaround knife, crazy as it may seem...40 bucks a piece plus the 6 bucks for shipping...then a refurb...whew.

Regards,
Steve

Honestly I am up for damn near anything. :D Maybe we should start a poll with say 5 high end knives and ask that only people intersted in participating vote. That way the first to get 10 votes would be a go. I want this knife to happen here, but I am starting to get discouraged that the last 13 post have been from 2 people doing BTTTs. What do you guys think??
