Silver's 4.7!

I was to late to the game to order the 4.7 or 4.1 I am hoping for 1 of each someway, somehow.

Happy for you... Let us know what you think they feel like and use the best for.

Thank you, thank you, one and all :)
Highly anticipated and long awaited are understatements! I was excited to get this knife and also really excited to share the news. I do hope that my little guy is the tip of the iceberg and we see more and more posts like mine coming rapid fire very soon.

I feel like I have so much to discuss now that I'm in the "new spec club". Mrs. Silver is taking the girls to a baby shower this weekend and I'll be completely unsupervised for awhile and I hope to get some more use in then as well as get some talk going on my observations of use and just fondling.
I'll keep updating my original post as well.

Congratulations!

Seething with envy....
I know that feeling, bro. Remind me... what are you waiting on?

Never trust a fart!
I lol'ed at this :D

Congratulations SN. When I get a delivery while at work, my wife calls me and asks "what the he'll did you buy now?" Mrs. Silver sure is a keeper.
A keeper for sure! I have to admit she didn't really know what was in the box though... and I'm OK with that. The real test will be the next time I'm getting a fire ready and making smore sticks for the girls. "Is that ANOTHER new knife???"

An unsupervised weekend with two 4.7's?!!
She's going to come home to find a lean-to and a new treehouse!

Congrats bro! I am drooling at those blades you got there. Care to sell me your CruForge? Hehehe...

Anyone else really curious as to the differences/similarities of the cruforge and the 3v ??

The perfect test scenario...

A) (1) Survivor!

B) (2) 4.7s (one for each hand)

C) one cruforge, one 3v (something to test)

D) freetime
(Not essential, but helpful)

E) No wife !!
(Essential, as she would inadvertently but inevitably have an effect on the very scientific results....

Waiting..... waiting

Not to plan your weekend out or anything [emoji41]

Damn Silver! Congrats, I know you have been waiting patiently. As usual Guy and Ellie have gone above and beyond to take care of their customers!

Happy for you bro!

To quote Robin: "Holy double-fisted knife score, Batman!"

That's a phenomenal bonus prize. Use it in good health!

The most epic mail call I may ever be granted. My starter 4.7 in 3v with black canvas and kydex. A surprise, preproduction cruforge 4.7 generously sent along.

Moderately pimped out. With Halestorm belt attachment and reflective paracord diamond knot.

Out with the old and in with the new spec.

Just kidding, I'd never part with my 5.

Of course I have to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Guy, Ellie and the team. All expectations of the products were surpassed as always. I took off from work as fast as I could today, but now I have some working from home to do, so this will just be a brief introduction. I can say the handle is slimmer and the knife is smaller in all dimensions than I thought it would be, but that doesn't take away from anything at all. The handle ergonomics live up to the hype and the dimensions just seem perfect. I love the fit in the sheath. More to come!

I was able to do a little late-night, indoor try stick. This 4.7 really is a well designed tool. I loved using it. My over-ripened-peach-like thumbs are still undecided on the new and improved spine, but they don't hate it. Given the choice of no jimping or jimping, they'd prefer none as they really prefer the feel of a smooth spine. Between the old spec spine and new, there isn't as much difference as they thought there might be.

Thanks for the mention Silver. Let me know how the drop loop works out.

Ok, silver since you have both. How does the jimping compare from the cru forge to the 3v?
After making a try stick with each knife, the jimping is equally painful on both :D
I worked a little with my fast fit Mechanix gloves and since I tenderized my thumbs pretty good last night, the gloves didn't make too much of a difference. I'm taking this as a sign that I just need to be using knives more to toughen up my hands. My thumbs want to be like Standard's when they grow up.

Silver, have you stopped holding the 4.7 yet? Doesn't it feel like Guy came to your house and formed the knife to your hand?
No kidding! It takes me so long to type one handed. I think of those stories of kidney thieves and how the victims wake up from being drugged in a tub full of ice... except in this case I wake up in a hotel with tried plaster all over my hand because Guy stole a mold of my hand to perfectly fit the 4.7 to it.....

Each one will be constructed completely out of try sticks :D

Grats SN!
Thanks! I did mess around with both knives and their handles; and both handles seem to fit both knives just fine.

Woohoo! I don't know if this is dumb or not, but I am keeping track of what I do with each knife, right now it is just one try stick each. I really want to see what it takes for each steel to lose its hair shaving sharpness and what it takes on a strop to get it back.
More to come!

To all those that I didn't quote, thanks for the affirmations and kindness! Like I said before I'm hoping this is the start of a lot of 3v and cruforge 4.7's and Monday sales going out. It seems like there's a start to it all. Cowabunga!!!!!

Thanks for the mention Silver. Let me know how the drop loop works out.

You know I have a lot more to be saying about your work ;)

I did wear my 4.7 with standard sheath and your attachment around the house and it really puts the knife at the perfect height with a really good amount of flex. More soon!

In addition to taking a bunch of pics, I did actually use my knives today!

I did some cross batoning with each 4.7 on the same piece of wood. This branch was hard!

My trusty baton is the same type of wood and between my full force swings and sharp spines of the knives it got chewed up good.

With the grain batoning. Again, this is the toughest stuff my knives have ever encountered. In addition to being really hard with the cross grain batoning, it resists breaking apart cleanly when going with the grain. You can see the fibers hanging on and as I batoned, you could hear the wood make a creaking splitting sound between whacks.

Are there any wood whisperers who can guess at what this wood is from my limited pics? It's not from my yard and I can't remember where I scavenged the limbs from.

After this morning's shenanigans, each blade will reluctantly shave arm hair, the cruforge seems to have just the slightest more bite to it.

Now I've read multiple accounts where someone says they chopped wood for hours or processes enough fire wood for a weekend camping trip and their GSO was still shaving sharp. Were they not being literal or am I doing something wrong?
What's your edge holding experience with cruforge and new spec 3v?

Now, too prove once and for all that SURVIVE!'s 3v is king of super steels, I did something today that I never thought I'd do and something I DO NOT recommend for your knives. Don't try this at home kids!

Just kidding ;)

If you hate the jimping, I understand. I will take them. Off your hands while you wait for new ones without jimping. That might be a good idea. :-)

FINALLY!!!!!

Thank you for this generous offer. What is your mailing address?

In all seriousness, has anyone modified their GSO and filed down the jimping? I might try that once mine arrive...
