Dr. once again I like your style. Great buy.

I got a knife Ray made for me shipping to me know, hope it gets here.

Camp Knives??

You should see the big bad wharncliff blade Ray made, it's on his website. It's getting closer to my house all the time.

Ahhh, so he made that petty for you, did he? Very nice. I contacted him when I saw it and asked him to make one for me to match the little Chinese utility knife I bought, except with a 4" blade rather than the honker he made for you!

Let me know what you think of it when you get it.

Thanks!

Andy

I will give you all a review after it gets here.

I am big guy with big hands and if your going to carry a knife carry a knife. I have not bought small knives because of grip issues, cannot get a grip. With knives being razor sharp instead of sharp cutting instrumenting as in the past, if a mistake happens you can have a very serious damage happen to your hand or fingers etc. I get half a year of rain here and when fishing things are slimy, safety first.

But I have learned in the last month from you all about smaller can be good too. So I do have some on the go right now, then I am putting the brakes on after that order is made.

I worked with Ray to make two knives, he is excellent to work with in all regards, about sizing, type of knife and pictures as things progressed. There's allot of good people on BF, knife nuts and knife makers.

Cheers!

I got the two knives Ray made for me about one hour ago. First review = if anyone wants a solid sturdy well made knife and sheath contact Ray.

Andrew the wharncliff is going to be one of the most useful knives I have ever owned. When Ray made it and sent me pictures, he said if I didn't want it he was going to keep it for himself. If I could have only one knife this would be the one.

The quality of workmanship and craftsmanship on each knife is outstanding; there is not a scratch, blemish or defect anywhere. The fit and finish applied to the wood handles, guards, the steel blade and the leather sheath, outstanding.

Top notch care was taken before shipment to make sure the owner/buyer is happy with the result that means allot to me.

Cheers! ;)

It's in the knife maker gallery area, Look!- New Knife for BF Member there is pictures also.

It's a bowie style camper, a big brute of a knife. For it's size it's not that heavy.

The wharncliff is going to see more action, I really think the blade style is suited to any form of cutting. If you get one I'm sure you will agree.

Info on the wharncliff sheath: when I have a knife normally I need to buy a second sheath cause the first one wears out. The pouch sheath Ray made is so sturdy it will last as long as the knife. Great leather, well made and fits the knife perfect. :)

Spearz,
I read a letter from Rezin Bowie some years ago in which he discussed the original "Bowie". It was a knife with no guard and he told how his hand had slipped onto the blade( while stabbing a hog if I remember correctly). He cut himself badly and subsequent versions had a guard.
There is so much foklore surrounding that knife that truth is hard to judge but it is a reasonable precaution
When Kershaw brought the first "fast opener" it was a Wharncliffe blade and it was "Knife of the year".

Hey Dr always nice to hear from you!

When Ray was making it, it actually had a half grind and he ground it off, if I got it correct. He thought it came out best the way he did it.

Very nice from Ray, the quality went in before the name went on.

SpearZ, I had a guard on that knife at first and decided to grind it flush with the handle. That's why there are two pieces of brass. The first one was the guard that I ground off and turned into a bolster.
To me, wharncliff blades are not for stabbing. It does have a point so you can pierce what you're cutting and then draw (pull) cut or slash. You can also do some delicate cutting or whittling by holding the knife at the ricasso. This was my first wharncliff blade, thanks to SpearZ for asking me to make it. I'll be doing more in the future...
