Since when has a little thing like the constitution stopped them...

Thomas Linton shines light wherever he goes. I do wonder, though, if there were several million of him, what would happen to our planet?

If the jacket said FBI I certainly would not feel threatened, as a law abiding citizen, but, would hopefully feel safe.

And that would be a mistake as well Andy.;) Whenever there is an armed person in your home uninvited you should feel threatened. Maybe not by them but until I saw an ID I wouldn't assume anything, although I might remain quiet until I found out what was going on. I sure wouldn't point a weapon at them anyway.
You never know, the FBI could've chased someone into your house.

The nice thing is that in our great country you're not liable to have the FBI in your home unless you're under suspicion for something. Be careful of what you write and be careful of what you say on the phone, and especially a cell phone!!!!:thumbdn: :grumpy:

Hopefully, the person is not wearing a jacket that has the big letters "FBI" on the front and back.

Inetersting point and something that disturbs me. A registered sex offender was recently murdered near me by an individual who represented himself as an FBI agent in order to gain entry. It's easy to order those big jackets from a number of different outfits. Many of them send me their catalogs.

This is a problem for society. I'd like to see the death penalty for those who misrepresent themselves as officers of the law in order to commit crimes.

For what it's worth, you are better off than those in, for example, Florida. You have no duty to retreat to avoid confrontation in your home. In Florida they do have a duty to retreat (last I looked). But you should retreat if you can do so safely. Again, just practical advice.

I think you're out of date on this, Tom. As I recall Florida recently abandoned it's "duty to retreat." Then the Brady people started distributing pamphlets in Europe telling tourists something like if they went to Florida and got into an arguement it was perfectly legal for the Floridians to shoot them.

I'm listening to a discussion with Attorney General Abu Ghonzales and Patrick Leahy on the new hour on the NSA spying thing. Very interesting.

You are correct.

I think they are trying to say that foreigners will be shot accidentally under the new law, but I think the end result will really just be a hell of a lot less carjackings:thumbup:

It's been enlightening to me to be able to spend time in Beijing and talk with a number of "old Commies." Aside from being educated and quite charming, they have a unique view on what communism is.

I bet that is very cool. There has been a series on Cuba on the radio on my drive home and it has been really interesting to hear some of those folks opinions. I mean it would be cooler to did what you did talk to them in person, but it impressed my that a lot of the people they talked to operated on a whole different view than we do.

Howard and HD, you are both 100% right - and then some. Since October in Florida, there is no duty to retreat in the home, in your car, or in any other place you are legally entitled to be. Wow! Florida 776.12, .13, .31, .32, and others. Passed overwelmingly - unanimous in the Florida Senate.

But the words "reasonably," "reasonable," and "necessary" are still in the law.

Also, note that a "presumption" may typically be rebutted. The existence of the presumption merely shifts the burden -- of proof or of going forward with proof. So if you shoot your drunken neighbor who thinks he's getting into his house - knowing who he is -- you may still have a problem with the law - in addition to to the Other Authority.

I also see the expected express exception for police upon their lawful business who identify themselves. Don't get the waste them.

If I were a bad guy, I would think seriously about home invasion or car-jacking in Florida. Wonder if you need a permit to carry in Florida like you do in Ohio.

Fla has a carry permit and I think some other states honors it. If you don't have a permit it can be a charge depending on where it is. I have had a carry permit for many years though I don't often carry a firearm I have it because it also covers other weapons like knives.

The ad is pretty funny. But I didn't know that the ACLU was involved in non-civil liberties issues. I'd like somebody to stop the various Internet sites from putting spyware on my hard-drive.

Sadly it gets more true all the time;)

Yeah. It's interesting that if you download a movie or a CD the media companies come and sue you. Yet advertisers and commercial interests can steal our personal info with the spyware and crap. I always tell my wife if they want that info they should have to pay US!!

Tom doesn't Spyware Blaster do that? It's one of the programs I have downloaded on my unit and I don't get spyware.:D
At least I haven't in a long time, after I cleaned it all off anyway.
Spyware Blaster used to be a free download, don't know if it still is or not.

Also have you heard of CrapCleaner? It's a free download as well even though it's a shareware website.
I run CC about every three days just to keep my unit running smooth. :D

RANT ALERT. WAHHHH. WAHHHH. WAHHH.

Yahoo couldn't park a car on my lot, but they feel they can "park" their software on my harddrive - taking up my space with their crap. Sounds like a national class-action. Any takers?

On another note, the folks who demonstrated in the streets against the latest war are going to have the ACLU sue because the Gov watched.

Apparently there is now a notional Constitutional right to be invisible while demonstrating on the streets. Kinda defeats the purpose of public demonstrations, no?

Being seen has a "chilling effect" they say - that's why they're on every TV station screaming about their "rights" - they're chilled. No bags over their heads, though, so they must not be too chilled.

They should move to Florida. They'd LOVE it there, what with all those folks packin' iron.

PHEW! I'm gonna go to bed and dream of a place to shoot without all the ^%^@# rules and idgets around -- where a man can blow up a plastic milk jug of water as God intended.

Tom,

#1 They didn't just watch, they tapped their phones and took down their license numbers. To me at least that's difft.

#2 That would be my house, come by any time you are in the neighborhood, although I like leftover pumpkins better than plastic milk jugs.;)
