Single Action Afficianados?

Owned a Ruger Blackhawk 7.5" stainless barrel, .45 Colt for a few years but sold it last year before Blade because I didn't shoot it enough any more.

Fun to shoot, accurate, and I put some pretty nasty handloads through it and was still a complete joy to shoot.

And since this is a pic thread

But, even though the action on a good SAA is a thing of beauty, the feel, sound, etc. SAA are still too slow for me. I'm a top break Number 3 kind of guy :D

I had a Ruger .357 Mag Blackhawk that was a fun gun. I've recently acquired a S&W 25-13 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt and started loading for it. Now, I've got the itch for a Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt. I'd really like to have one worked over by John Linebaugh.

You think Busse's are addictive, I have a real problem with six shooters and leverguns...
MikeH congrats on your Ruger Bisley Vaquero in .44 magnum! Here is mine it's the stainless version with 4 5/8" barrel, I could not see the silver front site very well so I dovetailed a blue steel front site in and removed the billboard on the barrel among other things.

I LOVE the Bisley frame! If Ruger made the Bisley with the shorter barrel, I would get one in a hurry. My wife keeps telling me she wants "a cowboy .45," so I've been considering getting one anyway....

Wow, finally a topic i can jump in! After a couple years of searchin, last month i found and snagged me a set of matching Ruger Vaqueros 44-40, 7 1/2 in barrels, case color blued.....have loved and owned several S/A Rugers for years....love them! Picks to follow this weekend, they are at my dads getting measured for holsters.:)

Nice Hammers, all!!! I've got a few, myself, but no camera. Two Vaqueros, two Freedom Arms premiers, and two Super Blackhawks; however, my two most recent are rapidly becoming favorites (Ruger Super BH Bisley .44 Magnum w/ 3.75" barrel and a Ruger Single-Ten .22LR). Both are VERY accurate and fun to shoot. Checkout the reviews of both @ gunblast.com.

You will need to check the cylinder throats for size every one of the ruger 44/40s I've had (8) had undersized throats I finally just bought a reamer to fix them. Since the barrels are .429 get the cylinders sized accordingly.

Yep your right I've opened most of the throats on my 45s too. I'm pretty sure ruger uses there reamers until they are so dull and undersized they have to toss them. The worst of the 44/40s had .416 throats, thought I had made a huge mistake first time I fired them. Like a really hot 44 mag load even though I knew they were light cowboy loads. Now though 44/40 is one of my all time favorite rounds its very versatile from 160grain light target loads to 240 grain palm smackers only suitable for rugers and marlins. I've taken a lot of hogs with those.

I've found out when the throat size is smaller than the bore size it hurts accuracy too. ;)

+200

Anybody use Beartooth bullets for reloading?

I've been using the .452 diameter 265 grain Keith type bullet. With 9.5 grains unique and CCI 300s, I've been getting a pretty consistent 950 fps with that combo out of a 4" S&W Mountain Gun. I'm still working on the accuracy bit. I can pop a quarter, but follow ups aren't consistent. I'm thinking I'm the problem though.
