When i am in an area were there is a threat of larger animals i usually carry a single shot shotgun with me . Do you ? If so, and you have pics , let's see . THANKS

if there where large dangerous game if i had a single shot it would be for myself:D:D

i forgot to mention that i also have a sidearm with me always. this is just an addition to my sidearm. it is ceap, readily available and is suitable for a variety of survival situations. you can use slugs or buckshot for larger predators or game and shot for smaller game and food. i think that the price and versatility of a single barreled shot gun makes it the "MORA" of survival guns. Thanks !!!!

A good single shot is definitely a handy woods item. Very useful for game, and for predators of various natures. Its lightweight and balance make it a good tool to carry.

I just picked up a good pump, to supplant another option, and like it a lot. It's a lot less heavy than my 870 is. I was not ever able to find a single shot that was light enough, to my tastes, to merit picking it over a pump.

Either way, you've got a good tool for the job! Thanks for sharing. Oh, here's my new toy-

I used to have an Ithaca Hiawatha single shot 12 guage that I got at a pawn shop for about $60 bucks almost 20 years ago. It was pretty short and light and I loved it's simplicity. A little hard on the shoulder though. I left it behind at my dad's house when I went off to college and he pretty much claimed it for himself for a barnyard critter gun.

Are you using that M-16 bandoleer to hold shell boxes or is it just a nifty photo enhancer?

i didn't mean anything bad buy it but if it's a bear one shot most likely won't do it unless your hella accurate and if it's a cougar mountain loin what not you genraly don't see them coming. for survival yes a single shot is great but not for protection from large dangerous game.

If you don't kill a griz with one shot, and you probably won't, it will just get very, very mad. Single shots are generally fool proof and hard to break though. Is it a NEF?

I carry a custom single shot 20ga. slug gun with rifle sites & use Brenneke 1oz. 20ga. slugs. it is backed up with a Ruger .357mag. ss security six. I live in Ga. & black bear is the largest animal we have & they are only in certain areas. none where I live.
a good thing about single shots is how quick you can change ammo to fit a quick changing hunting situation.

The first gun my father gave me was a Savage 12 ga. single-shot hammerless; with an interchangeable .30-30 barrel. I have more rifles now, but that's still my only shotgun. It is very lightweight, would be a good choice for woods carry.

I killed a skunk last night with a single shot 1000ft per second pellet rifle :D. One round to the neck and it was all over, except for the smell :o.

Now someone will ask "did ja eat it?" :D

LOL, That is what my GF's family teased me about all night after I killed it 'cause it was at their ranch. I wanted to kill another one and make some house slippers, but I was asked to just get rid of the poor skunk already cause the smell filled up the entire house :o!!!

Hey I know what you mean, the last time my son came to see me from Georgia he wanted me to stop an let him get a road kill skunk so he could mount it. It seems as if the skunks here are highly prized, ours have DUAL Racing Stripes instead of the single stripe. :D

Not a single shot but a Mossberg maveric model88  This is a good gun for the $$$ ! I also carry a sidearm ( Glock 19 or RIA M1911-A1):D I like my Benelli NOVA 12ga in adv. timber w/ 24" brl but this thing is a little heavy to pack for a long distance :thumbdn: If not my 12ga. Then it's just my little 10/22 carbine loaded with CCI Stingers:D

I think I'd rather have a pump. Even with the .357 to back it up, you have to wait until the (let's say bear) poses a realistic threat, aim, fire, throw shotgun away, get access to .357, remove from holster, brace, aim, and fire. Much simpler to level it with a couple 12 gauge shots, I think. For hunting, it probably doesn't make much difference. If it's accurate and reliable, why not?
