Single vs multiple tool arms

Idk Larry I love that second work rest. That's exactly what I'm looking for

-Justin Schmidt

Valnut, Yeah, I thought the second one was what I wanted until I discovered that I do not have three hands. It is hard to articulate to just the right position. The main pivot uses a left hand threaded bolt. Do you how much a left hand thread tap is? Not to mention the price of a left hand bolt if you can find one. Build a rest like the third one is my advice. Larry

Randydb, The rests piece on the sliding round bar on my rest is fixed level but you can make another rest that tilts with an Allen wrench set screw. Just take a look at the rest on Chris Williams Tag 101 grinder website to see his rest with a half moon shaped piece of steel on the bottom of his rest piece that is adjustable for angle. You can do it without welding. I have another fixture for grinding swedges of any angle. Larry

The pressure downward on the whole rests is at the point where the rest is attached to the tool arm. With a standard thread bolt the bolt will loosen with downward pressure but with a left hand bolt it will tighten and not move. This rest works well enough but is a bear to set up because it has three moving parts. If you are going to build a rest that tilts look at the Chris Williams Tag 101 website and check out his rest that easily adjusts up and down, side to side, and tilts as well. I have built a good half dozen rests for projects but my favorite is this one. Larry
