Yummy chips!!!

Damn Bladite, you clear land or sell firewood for a living or something?? Nice score!

Daizee,

thanks for suggesting the KEO countersink bit. It works great. I tried it on wood as well and it works great on it too. The drilled hole in the O1 was a bit rough looking before i used the KEO, im sure a little sandpaper would of smoothed out the rough ends, but the countersink bit really makes it more presentable looking and takes no effort at all.

Here is the basic outline of the knife ill try first. I may or may not round/curve the spin a bit more before its over... You guys think its ok like that or i should add more curvature?...... No im not an artist, and its meant to be a pretty basic design. Its bigger than it looks in the pic, at 8 1/4" OAL

WW Trizact belts kick ass. I use a lot of them. As far as the respirator, Murph said you should of had it Friday. Did he give you a tracking #?

In other news, I just got back from my sons very first football game. I was a little nervous wondering how he would do. He's very athletic but doesn't have a mean bone in his body. After about 4 plays he made a great tackle. It was like someone turned on a switch and he got it. Because he became a animal after that. I think once he figured out he wasn't gonna get in trouble for hitting someone it was game on . Lol. Aside from probably a dozen tackles he sacked the quarteback twice one time so hard he lost the ball, we recovered and scored. We won the game 21 to 0. It was awesome, I am so proud. After the game the coach called him the ice man! Lol.

The Trizacts look like they will be SWEET! I got different types of belts so i could see how they compare to each other. But by feel alone it seems the trazacts would last the longest. Worth the added costs.

And no i didnt get a tracking number, The respirator will likely make it on Monday though since it didnt come yet. No worries. I cant grind yet anyways LOL

And thats awesome man about your son. Ice Man, i like that!!! 21-0 is incredible. I can imagine how proud you are and how much fun he had!!

as we are on topic about knife making tools, what is a good set of thread cutting dies? I made a rat tail recently and the POS tap & die set I bought at HF cut the tail but also twisted it. Suggestions? I really want to do more rat tails with stacked handles.

Top left looks like one I'd like to try. The Guinness ones I've actually had before.

When I lived down town I had an Irish pub across the street, they had them there... Once every 3-4 months. Basically whenever the owner came back from Ireland he would bring a couple boxes with him.

OHHHH! And I kept reading that as "wankers" not "Walkers" the first 3 times I read the name of them.

Wankers - LOL! How British!

Gus, im not a huge tater chip eatin guy but those all would be interesting to try.

You may get a chance to try them at the Gathering. Triggs and I were thinking they might be a nice way to help wash down some more beer - not like we need any help with that!

Did you get any pics of the game? Or at least the after-party?

Went to a red neck flea market with a couple neighbors today. Found an old Carborundum Slip stone, a brick of .22 shorts, and a replacement stock and forend for my Wingmaster. I was surprised at all the cast iron they had. Lots of Griswold and Wagner, but I didn't buy any of them. Anyone know if it is safe to use cast iron on a flat top electric stove?

Saw a few Beckers, both Kabar and Camillus, but they were too expensive for me to jump on them.

I use it all the time... I use it on both the grill and stove top.

Got another awesome piece of gear today, an eagle industries dump pouch

Also going to a gun show tomorrow so I'll see if they have anything cool there

I guess I'm not understanding your question zulu. What twisted? Surely the die itself didn't twist.

That sounds good.......

I didnt get any pics of the game. I was in the stands watching so it would of been some far off pics. But if he keeps this up I may try to film a game or two.

nope, the die didn't twist, but it was a real struggle to cut the threads on the rat tail. By the time I was done, the tail itself was twisted like half a turn (I did this before HT on a blade made of 1084)). I'll snap a pic when I get home. I just want to know what is a good metal cutting die to cut threads on a rat tail, to top off with a cap nut or a tapped pommel.

Oh, I see. In that case it sounds to me like the stock that you was turning the threads on was a little oversized, that or you didn't get the die completely straight when you started threading. What was the size threads you are trying to put on it?

That was why I thought it was Wankers.

What about putting the rat tail in a vice close to where the die will be cutting?

12-24. I did check several times with different dies because the tail was cut eyeballing it, no measuring  ...then after I was done, I read in the box "not for use on steel" :D

Well, theres your first problem. Putting threads on something cant be done by eyeballing it. The shaft your threading will have to be a certain size. There is a little bit of play but it will effect the thread depth. I suggest not going under 77% thread depth so you don't sacrifice any kind of structural integrity............ go to your hardware store. Pick up whats called a decimal equivalent chart. If you get a good one it will give you all of the sizes you will need for correct threading for any thread size. As far as the dies. Any high speed steel dies should last you a lifetime. Just be sure to have the die holder as well, it will help you start the die straight, which is important.

Sorry if I dorked out on you there. I've worked with this stuff my whole adult life.

Damn Bladite, you clear land or sell firewood for a living or something?? Nice score!

just learning the trade, and having useful tools to move nasty things.

it can also be used with a chain to move pipe and crap like that with ease (even as a trailer dolly?. yar - just need to attach a 2 inch ball to the front...)

i would like an actual tractor, and probably owning some land up North as a wood lot, to harvest from, clear, etc as a "retirement hobby"... though i understand the way to do it is getting hired out to clear someone else's land for a cut of the take. look up "wood buncher" sometime for a scary machine :D
