While I was at the gun show their was a table selling beckers, and they wanted 80 bucks for a 14  and $150 for a 9

WW, do you have a dremel or something like that? Or maybe you could chuck a small grinding stone in your drill to get that curved bit.

Spike, that 94 is beautiful. The patina and everything looks so much cooler than new.

Sweet looking 'Pecker' there WW :D

I went somewhere  this weekend and had lots of fun, but I'm also so tire and sore :(. Helped to pour a concrete pad 96 x 73 x 22 inches deep - an addition to the building. Had to dig it all out, make the forms, and mix and pour the concrete. All completed in two days... also during my time there I sharpened and reprofiled 3 knives and 2 machete's. In the downtime from that work... gardening lots and lots of gardening :D Fun times.

Thanks bud :D

Gardening huh? Is that what we are calling it these days?? :D

WW - you might get a 2 or 3 round files in different diameters for getting into tight turns like that. They are available in a wide variety of diameters.

Good advice, it would surely of helped...Next time. I got her done!! Took 24 hours of working on and off, im happy with that timing using what i got.

.

I got a dremel... I just need to pick up some bits for it. I got it at a yard sale with no bits or anything.. WOrks good though so i will have to grab some bits for it. That would of sped the process up im sure.

Looking good Dresnor. I like the shape of those quite a bit.

I admit, when i got mine profiled the handle was not as comfortable as i wanted... So i had to reduce the palm swell. Thats why the handle looks a bit thinner in the last picture.. But now she is quite comfy in the hands.

Well I finished up two little projects this weekend in my few minutes of free time. First was the restoration of the Forgecraft Hi-Carbon Cleaver I found at a thrift store. It was in really good shape already so I just buffed a bit of rust off, true'd up the handle, rounded it off a bit, impregnated with bees wax, and then gave it a good edge. I have been really digging using this thing. Sorry I dont have better pics.

Before,

After... Once again, not a big change but the pics dont do this thing justice.

Then as practice (and because I wanted :D ) for the knife I am making with Todd I decided to pic up a Green River blank to put a handle on. Basically just practiced shaping micarta. My daughter actually picked out the blade from a line up of all of some other green rivers. Used black canvas micarta, and brass pins. Handle was brought to a polish for giggles and I ground a tip on this one because I think this will make an excellent belt knife. Didn't get pics of the sheath but will post later when I have more daylight. I will have to see how it turned out when I get to use it more, still not sure how I feel about it. Going to have to better figure out a dust collection system for the workbench cause lets just say theres black micarta dust EVERYWHERE LOL. BUT figuring this stuff out was the purpose of doing this project. Went by way too fast...

Yall all have a good week!

Dresnor, I know for a fact that your blade was heat treated today. I took pix of the process.

2nd note, Biscuit can be blamed for my growler hoarding.

James would prolly dig it though :D

Jimping costs extra.

Hey... Could that be where the MAGIC comes from? The jimping, or
the relief cuts.
Hmmmm... He really seems to want to hide it... Methinks he doth protest too much!

The more I doth aver that there is no wizardry, the more interest in sorcery is espoused.

As one demonstrates simplicity and clarity, others clamor ever-more for whispered secrets and conspiracies. What now might one humble craftsman do, to light another candle in the fetid murk?

How strange! this queer fascination for that which neither trods nor breathes on the stage of humankind's play-acting. Wherein such "magic" lies will ne'er be described by mortals nor illuminated by gods... because in sooth, it does not exist but in the weary, trembling imaginings of those who cannot grasp in their minds what they see with their own eyes.

Such is superstition and mindless fear, which has plagued our kind for centuries beyond reckoning. It is a scourge against enlightenment; a shadowy cancer on the progress of knowledge. Some may hope and struggle for a clearer light... but alas, that dawn seems still far off.

You get that from Shakespeare? :D

Oh... Found out my cholesterol has improved a bit. My total cholesterol is in the range it should be and the HDL and LDL are only a few points off!! :D

So i took my son to his first day of kindergarten this morning and he was excited to go in, but there was a lot of crying kids... I was glad my son wasnt one of them. I was a little sad to see him go but if he was crying it would of made it harder. When my daughter started school however she cried a little, none of that screaming and whaling i heard today but still some tears. My sons says, "Daddy i no cry, I strong boy" Made me proud LOL

There was a guy in there bringing his daughter, but man he smelled like a big bag of pot. Pissed me off. I have no problems with someone liking pot of course... But damn it there is a time and a place for it and taking your kids to school high as a kite smelling of weed is just horrible parenting. I could hear a couple of other parents talking about it as well. The guy had to be able to hear them too, but didnt seem to care. Shame.

Thanks man! Yours is coming along nicely, and fast!

Have you been making videos of the process?

Jeremy

Thanks bud! One benefit on not needing much sleep is i can keep working until im happy LOL

Havent made any videos yet, in fact i didnt even think about it really, i get going and barely remember to take pictures :D

Soon i have to go buy some stuff to make up one of those file jigs like you used in one of you videos. I really like that thing. I wouldnt even wait on the grinder if i had that LOL

I really like that file jig. It was really easy to go slow and be careful. It was not fast by any means but for my first knife it worked great.

With that said I do want to invest in a better grinder and learn how to grind knives. A new grinder just isn't in the cards right now.

I wonder what ever happened to RogueBowie. Havent seen him around in quite a while.

He stopped by about 6 months ago and said hi. I think he lost interest with Beckers. He was talking about some expensive folders when he was here. I cant remember which ones.

I understand that bro, I keep coming up with things i "need" and just cant afford to get at the moment. I already spent around 600 bucks as it is on knife making stuff and im still waiting on a grinder that is NOT defective. I sold my bow to help fund the grinder and financed the rest of the stuff. I just figured out last night a scribe would be great to get perfect center lines, and id also love to go get the stuff to make one of those file jigs so i could use a file to finish off this first knife... Even though that stuff is not expensive i just cant do it right now and will have to make a drill bit suffice for a while to mark close to the center line and have to wait on the grinder and use the bubble jig to try and learn to get even bevels. Just have to work with what we got.

And yea filing is a slow process... But i enjoy it. Progress is slow but mistakes come slow as well and that makes it easier to get better results. Im going to try and put one of those file jigs together as soon as i have a little extra spending money...

All that being said i think your doing a great job, nice looking designs on your blades and they are turning out great!!

Oh ok, people come people go i guess, just glad to hear it wasnt nothing serious that made him disappear.
