SK Blades email

jbmonkey jbmonkey & @mbkr thanks I don't know which I received as so far only received 1 email but thanks to both of you and also if you could edit the post to remove even the clues to my email that would be appreciated
it shows it went through, so I guess it was me.

done. edited it away.

I got the e-mail also and my Heart sunk, really hated to see this happen to Stephan. Now I wish I would have supported him more.

It is a sad thing to see. Unfortunately, though, it’s a trend most of us have seen coming. With all the other changes recently and everything. I have slowed way way down on anything Buck, even secondary market. And I don’t like saying that at all. I will always love Buck and the Bucks I currently own but only time will tell how things play out.

Hey now maybe we’ll have “pre Joe” and “post Joe” knives (in context with the COA and bigger limited runs comment, coinciding with Joe’s retirement)
I sure hope it doesn't come down to that.

I have been wondering how things were going/changing with the new "leadership". If this is a sign of things to come its not looking good from my point of view.

Sad for SK and may ending being sad for all of us and Buck in the long run. Sure hope not.

The hits keep on coming.

I hate to say it, but to me…. It’s looking like the spirit of Buck Knives died when Tobiassen took over.

My thoughts exactly... I've been through too many corporate management changes during my working life and recognized the same emerging patterns at Buck. First was the timing of a long time and major player employee, Joe Houser, retiring soon after the change was made/announced. The company line putting the lipstick on the pig about the departures is always the same... retiring to spend more time with (fill in the blank) or pursue different interests.

But in reality, when key people decide to leave in close proximity of a leadership change, they saw something in the hand writing on the wall for the company's future and it was time to bail, not wanting to be a part of the upcoming changes that they could not support or want to be part of.

Based on my last couple of experiences with the burnt tip on the D2 102 Heritage knife and black stains and spots on the recent 119 and 105 5160 limited edition knives I purchased, I'm not as motivated as I was before in buying what's being offered these days. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but I'm becoming more skeptical as events unfold.

I thought I was a cranky old geezer posting about this but I guess not. caquino caquino I hope we're all wrong, but I remember another good old Idaho company that nearly went toes up after an outsider came in to "get it going again"...

In my opinion...
Buck of the Month knives are no different than Special Factory Orders.
It's surely not the lack of capacity/capability. If Buck can build a BOTM, they can build a SFO.
Every BOTM has been a sellout.
I'm sure the success of SFO's and resellers is not lost on Buck.
A lot of money is being made on products by others instead of Buck.
Buck would interpret that success by others as under valuing the product.
Keeping the special builds in house keeps the profits in house.
Don't demonize Buck, the sky is not falling, our Buck world will continue, it's just business.
In my opinion...

I'll miss the "SK / BF Buck forum knives."
That was interesting.

Anybody that sells a product at wholesale can obviously make more money selling it retail.
SK was willing to make the effort to get our feedback on what knives to build.........

This is my opinion from my perspective. So I could be off a bit but not to far off. Lol.

The thing that was so great about SKBlades is Stephen wanted to know what we wanted in a special build and he got them built. If they sold out and there was still people wanting them he ordered more. He had many knives that were exactly what I looked for in a great knife and I sometimes bought two or more at a decent price. I didn’t find SKBlades right off and missed a few that were really nice .

With the botm offerings not so much, it’s you take what they have or pass. When they are sold out which is usually in a matter of a few hours and you won’t see them again. Sometimes it seems they use up what extra materials they have on hand to make something different than catalog issue. I’ve found six knives in all of the botm that I was interested in. There were two models that sold out before I could get one and they won’t be offered again. So the botm is geared more for the collectors of rare knives not necessarily a premium using knife like the ultimate hunter, sportsman or craftsman. Their pro series is and some of the heritage or legacy but at a premium price.

I’m wondering how things will go from here because it looks bleak . Hopefully it won’t last but we never know for sure.

BOTM is BS because they sell out too fast. Designed to remove money fromm collectors. SK's designs, you had a decnt chance to get.

Yeah, but it seems none of them folk go into the store much anymore.......
......just sayin'.
No, I don’t go to the store anymore. If I got an apology then I would.

lots of good points here. The best I’ve seen was SK polling what the group wanted and the majority would win a knife they felt kinda responsible for. That was pretty cool.
It’s a shame some of the best people are no longer working there. It’s also a shame the more you buy the worse it gets.

When David passed I sent an email to a few key people at Buck about a small run of something they have in house that’s been collecting dust. All proceeds go to Mrs Martin. I thought some 301 with Micarta or anything to be honest would work and call it the DM model.

I didn’t get a response but didn’t really expect one. I did expect that they post in the notification thread of Dave’s passing. At least a sorry for your loss.

David put on a display of Buck knives for years at the local shows and supported BCCI. Even moderated this forum for a bit. Did not ask for anything in return.

Buck wasn’t always like this but has become the company we see today which is why among other reasons I won’t visit the factory.
Profits come from good solid business decisions that benefit both the company and customers. Sales follow.
