LOL believe it or not NC has a lot of swamp lands as well. our best bear hunting is in the nastiest swamp lands you can find here. granted i do not live in eastern NC but i did go to college in eastern NC and i have spent many many hours in knee deep swamp mess duck hunting, bear hunting, fishing and etc.... i have seen skeeters that would run off with small children... the skeeters were rough but the no see ums are products of the damn devil.. those lil suckers hurt.

The skeeters aren't as bad as you'd think. Some summers are worse than others. Even at their worse, it's pretty much just at dusk. What's bad is the no see-ums and black gnats down around the bay right before dark! The redbugs and ticks can be bad some years. Those are the worse, IMO. You gotta be careful when you're stomping around, dress appropriately for what you're doing, and where you make camp. I just about always camp on a sandbar during the summer.
